Rewarding Recap: Contest Roundup, Plus Hundreds of Thousands of Marriott Points

I don’t like the idea of turning this feature into a list of contests, but there just happen to be a lot this week. As the summer months wind down, we should see some new fall specials added to those already announced. Here’s hoping for some good ones!

40-60% off Upgrades to Virgin America Main Cabin Select – Point Me to the Plane

I’ve only flown Virgin America twice in my life, and while the edgy vibe probably wasn’t for me, I do appreciate the convenience with which VX allows upgrades to different cabin classes. For example, you can easily upgrade yourself at the gate or even on the plane from the traditional Main Cabin to Main Cabin Select (like EconomyPlus) or First Class. For a limited time, those upgrades come at a special, low price.

450,000 Marriott Rewards Points up for Grabs – Loyalty Traveler

Ric has compiled a helpful summary of all the different bloggers giving away boatloads of Marriott Rewards points. His first post only mentioned nine, each offering 50,000 points, but since then he’s identified at least one more. Take a look and see which are worth entering for a chance to win big!

40,000 SPG Starpoints Givewaway – Loyalty Traveler

Ric has also identified at least one more blog giving away a bundle of Starpoints, much like Lucky and TPG were doing earlier.

40% Bonus on Membership Rewards Transfers to BA Avios – View from the Wing

Gary shares news of this temporary offer for an extra 40% bonus on transferred points through September 27. Given the frequency of transfer bonuses to Avios and other programs, this isn’t necessarily a “must do it now” opportunity. On the other hand, you wouldn’t want to be stuck transferring points during a period when the bonus isn’t in effect. If you think you might need Avios in the near future, now’s the time to take care of it.

30% Bonus on Membership Rewards Transfers to Virgin America Elevate – The Points Guy

In addition to BA, Brian shares that you can get a bonus on points transfers to Virgin America’s Elevate program. I don’t particularly care for this deal because of the limited (and capped) value of Elevate points to begin with. And if you’re a fan of Virgin America, then you probably already have a large pile and don’t need more. But there will always be those who need them for one reason or another, like paying for a companion fare or topping off an award.

8,000 Choice Privileges Points on 2-Night Stays – Loyalty Traveler

For those of you not planning to fly anywhere soon, a road trip may be in order, and that can often mean staying at a less prestigious hotel than a Grand Hyatt or W. Choice Hotels are a pretty good chain, and with this promotion from August 30 to November 14 you can earn 8,000 points for every two-night stay. The trick, as Ric warns us, is that you only get enough points added to your existing award points to earn 8,000 total. So for the maximum “bonus” you need a really cheap hotel to start. Don’t forget that many hotel points can also be converted to miles.

Free iPad or GoGo In-Flight Internet – AAdvantageGeek

The next time you’re on an American Airlines flight, log on to the in-flight Internet from GoGo and play a contest to win a free Apple iPad, a free pass to GoGo Internet, or a $10 Target gift card. The contest runs from August 22 to September 20.

Last Chance for Hilton’s Seven Tickets to Paradise – Points, Miles, & Martinis

Hilton has been running several contests all summer long, releasing a new one every couple weeks (although you could keep entering every day for the same prize if you wanted to). Now these contests are about to close. If you want to enter any of them, this is your last week to do so.

Conde Nast and Hilton Facebook Contests – Very Good Points

Stacey offers a couple of new contests from Hilton and Conde Nast, these ones coordinated through their Facebook pages. Conde Nast is offering a trip to Vietnam, and Hilton has four vacation packages to Europe, Mexico, and the United States. I’ve pretty much given up on my personal Facebook account as being about me. Now it’s just my one-stop contest entry persona. Here’s hoping I win something eventually. :P

Scott created Travel Codex after learning how to travel better on a budget during grad school. He now flies over 150,000 miles every year.
