Rocketmiles is one of two companies that have really pushed to change how travelers earn miles when booking hotels. The other is Pointshound, which I prefer for various reasons, including the ability to book almost any hotel, but Rocketmiles tends to offer more miles. However, Rocketmiles does a very good job of curating the selection of hotels that it works with. And some of the offers it provides can be very generous — enough to earn a free flight after just a couple of stays.
Washington, DC, is one of my favorite cities since I love going to museums, it’s not as crowded as New York, and the restaurants are getting better each time I visit. When you book your next hotel before March 20 and stay by April 13, primetime for the annual cherry blossoms, you can get an extra 1,000 miles on top of any other miles you would earn for your reservation.
For example, Megan and I have stayed twice at the Dupont Circle Hotel, a great boutique property with a lively bar and nearby restaurants. It’s $269 a night during the first weekend of April and will earn 6,000 bonus United Airlines miles. Add on 1,000 bonus miles for this promotion and 1,000 miles if you sign up with my link, and you’ll get 8,000 total miles valued close to $120.
There are plenty of cheaper properties, too. You can still get 2,000 miles if you pay $111 per night at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City near DCA and commute into the city by Metro.
Rocketmiles partners with several other airlines including Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Virgin America, and JetBlue.
Of course, airlines have offered bonus miles for booking hotels through their own websites for many years, but they typically have a poor interface and fewer miles. Choose Rocketmiles for more miles at a good hotel, and the chance that you might earn elite stay credit. Choose Pointshound if you want to choose from a larger number of properties or if you want to guarantee that you’ll earn elite status on select Double Up rates — you’ll give up a few miles for the opportunity. Both companies have their strengths.
Earn 1,000 bonus miles when you complete your first booking. Plus you get 1,000 bonus miles if you take advantage of the current promotion.
Earn 250 bonus miles when you complete your first booking. Plus you’ll get free Level 2 status if you use my link so you’ll get more miles with every stay.
Full Disclosure: I also earn some miles if you use any of the links above to sign up for Rocketmiles or PointsHound.
