Over the weekend, American Express Platinum members lost lounge access to American Airlines Admirals Clubs and US Airways Clubs.
This policy change was announced in the beginning of December (December 4, 2013, to be exact). Many of us received e-mails from American Express with the subject heading, “Important information about your Platinum Card(R) Account.”
Some of us were offered anywhere from $200 to $500 in “statement credits toward American Airlines and US Airways incidental fees charged to your card between March 22, 2014 and December 31, 2014.”
This is in addition to the $200 airline fee credit that all Platinum cardholders receive. I purchased 2 x $100 American Airlines gift cards in early January and got my credit.
I purchased another set of $100 AA gift cards yesterday as well, and will report back on if my account gets the credit. I just wanted this post to serve as a reminder to those who got the offer that the period to get your statement credits has begun.
If you did not receive a statement credit offer and hold an Amex Platinum, you can always call and voice your displeasure – some people were able to get statement credits offered over the phone after calling in. You may not be successful, but you miss all of the shots you don’t take.
