Mexico City International Airport has seven priority pass lounges that are available for eligible pass holders. There are three located in Terminal 1, and four located in Terminal 2. These two terminals are not connected, so it is good to know which Terminal you are flying out of based on the airline you are taking from Mexico City.
Terminal One:
- Air Canada
- Air Canada Rouge
- Air France
- Alaska
- Alitalia
- All Nippon Airways
- American Airlines
- Avianca
- British Airways
- China Southern
- Cubana
- Hainan
- Iberia
- Interjet
- JetBlue
- LATAM
- Lufthansa
- Southwest
- United
- VivaAerobus
- Volaris
- WestJet
- Wingo
Terminal Two:
- Aeromar
- Aeromexico
- Aeromexico Connect
- Copa
- Delta
If you’re flying out of Terminal 1, it is also important to remember that there are certain gate areas where the vast majority of U.S.-bound flights depart from, versus domestic Mexican flights and then other intercontinental flights. So, knowing this information, you should plan to visit the lounge closest to your gate, as the terminal is long with a lot of walking distance.
The Avianca lounge is operated by Global Lounge, so it is technically a contract lounge. It is operated 24-hours a day, which is nice and has basic amenities like TVs, newspapers, refreshments, snack foods, alcoholic beverages, and wifi. Other lounges in Mexico City airport Terminal 1 available for Priority Pass holders include the Grand Lounge and Lounge 19.
The lounge requires passengers to take an elevator down to the ground floor, across from gate 35. At first glance, it may seem a bit cramped. There are newspapers and computers available for use.
The food and beverage selection is pretty extensive for a contract lounge, with self-serve stations and a full bar.
There is a lot of space to sit, read, and relax. At mid-day on a Monday, it was not very crowded at all, so we felt like it was a nice place to relax.
It was also cool that the lounge was at a lower level so we had views of aircraft, “below the wing” as they were being serviced.
Avianca Global Lounge Bottom Line
While this wasn’t the nicest lounge by any means, it provided all of the basic amenities for us to relax a bit in a quiet space prior to our flight to the U.S. I think that this is a good lounge to use if you are hopping back across the border, although for a long international flight, I would suggest maybe exploring some of the other lounges in MEX airport. I will be flying from Madrid to Mexico City in a few weeks and I plan to visit and review the OneWorld lounge as well as other lounges in the airport. But, overall, I was satisfied with this lounge for what it was able to offer us.
