The DoubleTree San Francisco Airport Hotel is your standard airport hotel. It’s nothing special but it will offer you a comfortable bed and a not-so quiet place to rest and relax before your flight. The DoubleTree San Francisco Airport Hotel is located on the San Francisco Bay but it is not a hotel to stay at if you plan on visiting the City. To get from the hotel to downtown San Francisco is quite a pain in the butt. You will have to drive, uber it or take the airport shuttle back to the airport and then take the BART train into the city. If you have a car, visiting the City will be much easier but self-parking will cost you a whopping $24 a day at the hotel.
There are two DoubleTree Hotels in the San Francisco Airport area. There is the DoubleTree San Francisco Airport North located in the city of Brisbane and then there’s this one, the DoubleTree San Francisco Airport located in the city of Burlingame. The DoubleTree San Francisco Airport Hotel is located approximately 3 miles south of San Francisco International Airport and there is a complimentary 24-hour shuttle service to and from both hotels.
I bring up the fact that there are two DoubleTree Hotels in this area because if you are waiting for the airport shuttle, make sure you getting on the correct one. The shuttle comes around every 30 minutes or so and takes about 10 minutes (depending on traffic) to get to the hotel. If you are arriving at an odd hour or just lack patience, there are courtesy phones located at the shuttle stops with direct dial to the local area hotels.
On this trip, my friend Andrew and I needed a place to stay before for our early morning flight to Seoul. I booked a standard 2 double-bed room for one night. Upon our arrival, we were upgraded to a Deluxe Bay View room with two double beds. WiFi is provided complimentary throughout the hotel and Hilton HHonors Gold and Diamond members are entitled to free breakfast or 1000 HHonors points and upgrades when available.
The DoubleTree San Francisco Airport is a pretty standard hotel. There are no frills here but the hotel is clean and comfortable and the staff is friendly and attentive. The lobby is bright and modern and there are beautiful trails and running paths along the bay to get some fresh air. Check-in was quick and easy and the staff even texted me a few minutes later to ensure that our room was acceptable.
Our Deluxe Bay View room was spacious with plenty of room to spread out for two adults. The décor was definitely dated and the room felt a little drab but it wasn’t too bad. A remodel with some bigger windows and better light fixtures wouldn’t hurt though. Our room was furnished with two double beds, a work desk, sitting area, coffee maker, MP3 player and an in-room safe.
The enclosed bathroom was spacious and had a single sink, toilet and shower/tub combo. Crabtree and Evelyn bath and body products were provided for our use.
During the day time, the DoubleTree San Francisco Airport Bay View Rooms provided some amazing views of SFO and its many runways. It really is an AVGEEK’s dream and we could have stayed here for hours watching the planes land. The exterior of the hotel was properly insulated and we couldn’t hear any noise coming from the airport. However, I must warn you though; the interior walls were very thin and we could hear everything going on inside the hotel. From inside our room, we could hear the guests next door watching TV and people talking outside in the hallways. If you are a light sleeper, ask for a room away from other guests and bring some earplugs.
Other hotel amenities included a business center located in the lobby with several desktop computers and a fitness center located on the second floor. The business center was located in a very public place and did not offer any privacy to work at all. The space was exposed to all the people at the reception area and to the restaurant goers behind you. Not really the best place for a business center.
DoubleTree San Francisco Airport bottom line
Overall, the DoubleTree San Francisco Airport Hotel is a decent airport hotel. It’s convenient and close to the airport and the prices are pretty reasonable compared to the other area hotels. I would definitely recommend the DoubleTree San Francisco Airport Hotel if you have an early morning flight or an overnight layover at SFO. It’s clean, comfortable and convenient but I wouldn’t recommend this hotel as a good base for visiting and touring the city of San Francisco. It’s too far from the city and public transportation options are not the most convenient.
