Although Starwood was acquired by Marriott last year, the Starwood Preferred Guest loyalty program continues to operate independently. SPG is known for lots of targeted promotions, including one that just started today. According to Rapid Travel Chai you can visit the SPG enrollment page and enter your SPG member number to determine which offer you’ve been targeted for. Examples include double qualifying credits or bonus points on each stay.
After revealing your offer, you still need to register by April 15. I recommend you register immediately; there’s no harm if you do and potentially lost benefits if you forget later.
My own offer was for double elite qualifying credits now through May 15. That means if I stay 15 nights on four different stays (check-in/check-out) I’ll actually get 30 nights and eight stays of credit toward SPG Gold or Platinum elite status. To earn SPG Gold status you’ll need 10 eligible stays or 25 eligible nights in the calendar year. Platinum members need 25 eligible stays or 50 eligible nights. There are also additional benefits for going beyond these thresholds when you earn 75 or 100 eligible nights.
SPG has generally been good about trying to create a more customized experience for its members. I think that’s why it has so many targeted promotions, in addition to benefits like a choice of welcome amenity. However, I gave up on SPG status last year. The targeted offers for double qualifying nights were never sent my way, and I ended up losing my Platinum status.
Between that and the Marriott acquisition, I lost interest. I know others who had no trouble earning status the normal way and still got a double elite credit offer. An offer for bonus points on each stay would be more helpful. Examples like these make the “targeted” offers seem more random and less personal. Hopefully you were targeted for an offer that works best for you, whatever your needs.
