This was my first time visiting a United Club since the re-branding and I must admit, I really like United’s new design direction! The United Club LAX in terminal 7 is a brand new lounge. It’s not just a remodel of an older lounge but a brand new lounge in a brand new space. The new space is bright, airy and beautifully designed with smart and sophisticated textures, comfortable furniture and chic ambient lighting to create a young, hip and modern space to rest, relax and be productive. You can definitely see design elements of the new Polaris branding throughout the lounge and I like it. A lot.
The entrance to the new United Club LAX is located on the main departure floor, adjacent to gate 71A. From the security checkpoint, take the escalators up one level and make your immediate right for the lounge entrance. The lounge is open daily from 4:30 AM to 12:45 AM.
There are large floor to ceiling windows that let in a lot of natural lighting and the entire space feels bright and airy. The walkways are spacious and there are plenty of soft, leather armchairs and small tables grouped together to provide a casual and comfortable space for rest and relaxation. Electrical outlets are plentiful and can be found by a majority of the seating areas to keep your devices powered and ready to entertain.
At the entrance to the United Club LAX, there is a large open space with several communal worktables. The counter-height tables are large enough to seat 6 people each and each space has individual electrical outlets and USB ports to power all your devices. The space is brightly lit and spacious enough to spread out and be productive. Password protected WiFi is provided throughout the lounge but I found it to be a little on the slow side.
If you need to hold a private cell phone conversation or need a quieter space to get some serious work done, there are individual cell phone rooms located to the left of the entrance. The cell phone rooms are enclosed, private and will allow you to work in a distraction-free environment. Need to hold a meeting? Conference rooms are available as well.
There’s a small VIP room tucked away in the corner of the lounge with a private seating area, TV and an enclosed bathroom. I’m not sure who the room is reserved for but the door was unlocked and I just walked in to take a picture. No celebrities for me today.
The spacious dining area is located in the center of the lounge with tables and chairs to enjoy some food, socialize with others or get caught up on the day’s news.
Food-wise, the options have not changed since the re-branding. The lounge offers a salad bar with cheese cubes, cold cuts, vegetables and a hot soup of the day. Today’s selection was clam chowder. The food offerings are nothing special but as expected for a domestic lounge. At least there’s an espresso machine with Illy coffee now.
Towards the back of the United Club LAX, there is a stunning, circular bar with a quality selection of top shelf and house beers, spirits, wines and food for purchase. This really is the focal point of the lounge and is a great place to drink and socialize with your fellow travelers. House drinks are complimentary but top shelf liquor is extra.
But my favorite part of the lounge is the beautiful outdoor deck. With Southern California’s year-round beautiful weather and 300+ days of sunshine, the outdoor deck is a perfect place to spend your visit to the United Club LAX. The outdoor deck boast views of the ramp and runway with comfortable seating options. The deck is green and breezy and allows you to escape the confines of a post-security airport for sunshine and fresh air. The only other lounge at LAX with an outdoor deck is the Star Alliance Lounge in TBIT.
Overall, I am really impressed with the new United Club at LAX. The lounge is spacious, beautiful and well-designed for passengers looking to either rest and relax or be productive. The outdoor deck is a wonderful addition to the lounge and is a great place to get some fresh air and enjoy the California sunshine. I usually don’t make it a point to get to the airport early for a domestic lounge but I will make an exception for this one. Good job United!
