Unlike other airlines, Singapore Airlines does not allow Star Alliance Gold members flying in economy class into their First or Business Class Lounges at Singapore Changi Airport. Instead, Star Alliance Gold members traveling in economy class are only allowed access to the Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Gold Lounge. The SilverKris First and Business Class Lounges are reserved specifically for those respective passengers and PPS Club members only. This applies to Star Alliance Gold members from Singapore Airlines own KrisFlyer program and from the other Star Alliance frequent flier programs including Aegean Miles+Bonus, Turkish Airlines Miles and Smiles and United Airlines MileagePlus.
The KrisFlyer Gold Lounge Terminal 2 is located in the north wing of the terminal, near the E gates. From the shopping arcade, just follow the signs for “Lounges” and take the escalator up to the mezzanine level (level 3). The KrisFlyer Gold Lounge terminal 2 is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The lounge is located post immigration but pre-security so make sure to leave with enough time to clear security at the individual gates before your departure flight.
I’m normally a huge fan of Singapore Airlines but I must admit, I was rather disappointed with the KrisFlyer Gold Lounge terminal 2. It’s a very basic lounge with basic amenities. The KrisFlyer Gold Lounge terminal 2 is one open room with low armchairs and dim lighting spread throughout the entire space. There are no windows to let any natural lighting in and the small lounge just feels stuffy, dark and depressing. The decor is dated and the furniture is definitely showing its age.
The main seating area of the lounge encompasses the bulk of the lounge. There is no variety in the seating options and there are no walls or dividers to give the lounge any defined spaces or privacy from your neighbors. The space just isn’t functional for anything other than sitting and playing on your phone.
There is a small seating section located in the back of the lounge that is semi-separated from the rest of the lounge. This space is less crowded and slightly secluded so if you want some privacy, this might be your best bet.
There are two work stations located in the back with desktop computers. Other than here, there are no other spaces for anyone needing to be productive. There are no other tables or functional spaces to use a laptop or spread out with additional files or folders. Password protected WiFi is provided throughout the lounge.
For food, there is a self-serve buffet station with a decent selection of hot and cold dishes including Singaporean fried rice, noodles and sandwiches. During breakfast time, there was a small selection of western breakfast items including scrambled eggs and waffles.
The alcohol selection is rather limited with only a few options of beers, wines and spirits. Non-alcoholic options include juices, sodas and an espresso machine.
KrisFlyer Gold Lounge Terminal 2 overall thoughts
Overall, I was really disappointed with the Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Gold Lounge. For a 5-star airline, I was really disappointed with how poorly the lounge was designed. It was not a functional space for travelers to rest, relax or be productive and the lack of amenities (showers, day rooms and restrooms) provided a very sub-par experience. The hot food options were appreciated but everything else just fell way below my expectations.
