So the great news for travelers of all ages as American Airlines is eliminating the majority of oversize baggage fees for sports and music equipment. This change can save school bands on tour thousands of dollars and the sports enthusiast at least $150! Effective immediately, the oversize fee for sport and music equipment is zero! Instead, check these items as “standard bags”.
It is important to note that due to special handling requirements, oversize items such as antlers, hang gliders, scuba tanks and kite/windsurfing items will continue to incur a flat $150 fee. All other items, under 50 lbs. can be checked as a regular bag. This means AA credit card holder, elites, and those on itinerary with free bags, can check the bag for free!
