Everett Paine Field is the second commercial airport in the greater Seattle area. Offering nearly 25 departures per day to West Coast Destination, the airport serves the North Sound. Since the airports started commercial service in the spring of 2019 only Alaska Airlines and United Airlines have offered flights to and from Everett. United’s schedule has been static with flights to Denver and San Francisco, but Alaska Airlines is adding new routes and adjusting frequencies for the fall/winter season.
Two New Routes from Paine Field
This fall Alaska Airlines will add two new routes to Paine Field. The first route is a once daily route to Palm Springs. With the winter coming and cold gray days in Seattle, many Seattleites head south for reprieve from the wet winter. The popular tourist destination makes sense, as Alaska tends to offer several leisure routes from the Pacific Northwest.
The second new route will be Everett to Spokane. The first intrastate regional route will connect business travelers in Spokane to the North Sound region. With many business north of Seattle, this intrastate connection makes perfect sense. Flights are timed to leave Spokane in the morning and return from Everett in the evening. Making it perfect for Spokane to Everett commuters, not so much in reverse.
All Alaska flights at Paine Field are operated by Horizon Air with jet service using the Embraer 175 aircraft, which features a three-class cabin: First, premium, and economy.
Paine Field Schedule Adjustments
Seattle-Everett Pain Field has a strict limit of daily commercial flights. Under the airport plan, only 24 commercial daily departures are allowed. With strict maximums, Alaska has to reshuffle flights and eliminate some service to add these two new routes.
When the airport first started commercial service, the graph below represents Alaska’s original operating schedule. 18 flights a day to 8 destinations on the West Coast. Originally Alaska was only going to offer 13 flights, but when Southwest pulled out, they increased their frequencies to 18.
Starting in November of 2019, Alaska Airlines will keep 18 daily departures, but serve 10 destinations.
In order to add the two new destinations, Alaska is reducing service to Los Angeles and Portland. Los Angeles is reduced from four daily flights to three. Portland is reduced from four daily departures to twice daily.
Other changes for the fall include moving one of the two daily San Jose flights to San Francisco and adding an additional flight to Phoenix. Adding flights to Phoenix sticks with Alaska’s winter weather leisure planning.
Fall Schedule
Alaska Airlines’ Seattle-Everett Paine Field is a snow birds dream. With more destinations to sunny California and Arizona, escaping the S.A.D. days of winter in Seattle will be a godsend. I expect to see more adjustments made to Alaska Airlines service at Paine Field. After all it’s a semi new nitche market for the Airline and Alaska needs to figure out exactly what services the North Sound wants and needs.
The fall schedule begins Nov 7, 2019. Flights times are currently as scheduled.
