On Friday May 15, I booked a ticket from Philadelphia to Kyiv for $1638. A few hours later I called the Australia call center to change my ticket to Los Angeles to Bangkok. I would have called the US or Canadian call centers, but they are operating at limited hours. Since it was after 6pm ET, Australia it was. I made the change without a problem. I was excited for my new trip that I booked. Just $1638 for business class to Asia!
Saturday morning I woke up to an email form Qatar Airways. The email subject, “Thank you for your confidence.” Inside the email was $100 voucher for future travel. With a catch.
As a way to thank you for your recent booking, we are offering you a travel voucher of USD 100 to be used for your next trip between 1 June and 15 December 2020.
We will email your voucher number within 48 hours of completing the first flight of your original trip.
The Voucher Catch
Qatar Airways is short on cash and this is a great way for them to increase cash flow. If they provide me with a voucher and I use it for a second booking, Qatar Airways makes more money. This is brilliant. The one catch, I must join QMiles & fly. Platinum members receive $175 & 12,000 miles, Gold $150 & 10,000 miles, Silver $125 & 8,000 miles, and Burgundy aka everyone else receives $100 & 6,000 miles. Each person in the booking receives the voucher for flights booked February 15, until 31 May 2020, for outbound travel before 15 December 2020. Yet, you do not receive the voucher until AFTER your flight. One-way flights are also eligible for this same promotion.
This promotion is best used for those who are already Qmile members. Those who fly Qatar Airways often will receive the most from this promotion. I personally do not value Qmiles as much as I do other award programs due to the high cost of awards. However, if you are more concerned about saving cash, this program is for you.
