Flying during the Covid-19 pandemic is nothing like how flying use to be. Some airlines are blocking middle seats and onboard service is minimal. Countries have placed restriction on travel and most international travel is at a standstill. As the world slowly re-opens and reduces social distancing measures, travel is returning. Americans cannot travel to Europe this summer, but Mexico is welcoming travelers. The US-Mexico land boarder remains closed to nonessential travel, but Mexican airports are open and welcoming tourists.
Mexico Airports Are Open
If you are flying to Mexico during the summer of 2020, travel will be slightly different. First there’s an issue of lack of flights. For example, Southwest will not restart flights to Puerto Vallarta until October 2020! Many direct flights from secondary cities have been cut. Expect to fly to Mexico from only 1 or 2 flights a day from southern hubs.
Upon landing in Mexico, things are also slightly different. Custom and immigration queues are short. With fewer flights, customs is easier than ever. There’s just one catch. Before seeing a custom agent, each person must fill out a health declaration and have their temperature checked.
Anyone with a fever over 100.4 must seek medical care. Once your self-declared health question is complete, you’re free to enjoy your vacation. No self-quarantine required. Just bring a mask, as small business, hotels and beaches require a mask when not actively eating, drinking, or swimming.
Once in Mexico, you’re free to relax and enjoy. The beaches are now open, with social distancing measures in place. Tourist activities are open too, along with shops, restaurants, beaches, and pools. Discounts are steep with many 2 for 1, or 3 for 2 specials at popular tourist destinations. The only ask, before entering any business you sanitize your hands and feet, wear a mask at all times, and succumb to another temperature screening. Many larger businesses have security to ensure you’re compliant, smaller business will ask you follow the rules. If they are caught breaking the regulations, your failure to wear a mask, will get their business shut down by local authorities. So if you’re traveling this summer to Mexico, do your part. Mask up!
