Fresh off the heals of Alaska Airlines own BOGO promotion, Delta Air Lines is striking back in the battle for Seattle with a less lucrative buy one get one offer. As the kickball season in Seattle has kicked off, Delta the official sponsor of the Seahawks, and Alaska Airlines, who Russell Wilson as their Chief Football Officer, tend to offer competing promotions. As in most years, Alaska is offering early boarding for Seahawks fans. Meanwhile, Delta is giving mile away through 12 status. Now, both airlines are giving away free tickets.
Delta Air Lines BOGO
The Delta BOGO offer is for only flights from Seattle. All trips, rather one-way, open-jaw or roundtrip must originate in Seattle. Travel is valid within the United States, but excludes popular beach destinations such as Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. Alaska’s BOGO was systemwide, which opened up some awesome opportunities to Mexico, Costa Rica, and Hawaii. Delta pumps the breaks on the beach, but is “coincidently” advertising Alaska. Travel needs to be purchased by Sept 23, 2021 and is good for travel through December 15th. There are some blackout dates around Thanksgiving.
Delta’s BOGO is only valid for main cabin or basic economy class tickets. Both which are refundable towards a future flight credit if you decide not to travel. Unfortunately, Delta is not offering a discount for single flyers or for first class. This is once again where Alaska outshines with 10% off fares. As Alaska recognizes that not everyone has a travel companion. Or lives in Seattle for that part. Finally, taxes and fees are the responsibility of the flyers. Which means the second ticket cost is less than $10.
Bottom Line
Alaska and Delta are both shining through this NFL season with big promotions for flyers. Rather you want to board early, earn free miles, or take off for less. Both Delta and Alaska Airlines has an offer for your. The Alaska BOGO offer is now expired, but if this season is anything like last, it will be back several times. With the fall travel season appearing to be slowing down due to the Delta Covid variant, it seems appropriate for airlines to look for creative way to fill their seats. Furthermore, both airlines have been battling for Seattle’s business for years and we are likely to see more promotions as Alaska and Delta fight it out for the turf at SEA.
