As a traveler, there’s something undeniably exciting about stepping into a new airport lounge – a sanctuary amidst the hustle and bustle of terminals, where comfort, convenience, and indulgence intertwine. It’s even more exciting when the lounge is empty and you have it to yourself. This was my experience during the early morning hours between a connecting international flight and my Transcontinental flight to Orange County. The Soho Lounge experience is an elevated experience, a slight step above American Airlines Flagship lounges.
In the realm of airport lounges, the American Airlines Soho Lounge at JFK International Airport stands out as a beacon in the American Airlines lounge collection. Welcoming American Airlines, British Airways, and all OneWorld premium elite flyers.
From the moment you enter the American Airlines Soho Lounge, you’re greeted with an ambiance that exudes elegance and modernity. The business class lounge is designed to reflect the trendy vibes of New York City’s Soho district, the lounge boasts sleek furnishings, contemporary decor, and chic lighting that create an inviting atmosphere. Whether you’re seeking a cozy corner to unwind or a stylish space to catch up on work, the lounge offers the perfect setting for every traveler’s needs.
The lounge boasts several different areas throughout, allowing business class passengers and oneworld emeralds to relax in different areas. There’s a full service bar area, a dining room, chairs for relaxing and airplane spotting and a cozy back room with a fireplace. There’s so much to love about this lounge and allows guests to choose their environment.
The lounge also has a room with daybeds for resting. However the lights are kept on and quite bright. An eye mask is required if you actually want to get sleep. This is a design flaw. I had several hours between flights and took a three hour nap and found the beds to be comfortable, but the bright light was a nuisance.
Eat, Drink & Be Merry
One of the highlights of any visit to the American Airlines Soho Lounge is undoubtedly the al la carte dining and elevated food options compared to the Greenwich lounge. In the center of the lounge is a self serve buffet. At breakfast time there was everything from eggs and bacon, to the typical fixings for a standard British breakfast. Baked beans and mushrooms included.
For those looking for something else, order from the QR code at each seat to access the al la carte menu. Within minute you can enjoy a fresh made to order meal delivered to your seat. I ordered a bacon sandwich, which was similar to what I had in the Chelsea lounge a few months ago.
From gourmet meals to artisanal snacks, the lounge’s culinary offerings are sure to tantalize your taste buds. Indulge in a delectable spread of fresh salads, savory entrees, and decadent desserts curated by renowned chefs. Breakfast switches to lounge around 10:30 am.
For those looking to elevate their experience or partake in an adult beverage or two, the lounge offers an extensive selection of premium wines, craft cocktails, and specialty beverages that promises a truly unforgettable gastronomic journey. There is a self-serve wine dispenser near the coffee machines. A decent selection of both red and white wines. There’s also a fridge full of soda, water, sparkling drinks, beer and more. I do like the focus on local microbreweries such those from Brooklyn brewery.
Those looking for something more custom can visit the bartender who will whip up a drink of your choice. As I was there in the morning I took advantage of a delicious espresso martini made with gray goose vodka.
Comfort & Amenities
Traveling can be exhausting, but the American Airlines Soho Lounge provides a haven of comfort where you can relax and recharge before your flight. Sink into plush seating and unwind with a refreshing beverage as you soak in the tranquil ambiance. Need to catch up on work? The lounge offers high-speed Wi-Fi, ample charging stations, and business amenities to ensure you stay connected and productive while on the go. And for those seeking a moment of tranquility, private shower suites are available, allowing you to freshen up and rejuvenate before your onward journey. There are even private phone booths as well.
Exceptional Service:
At the American Airlines Soho Lounge, hospitality reigns supreme. The dedicated staff members are committed to ensuring that every aspect of your lounge experience is nothing short of perfection. From the minute I entered the lounge I felt as though I was in a private bar. Staff members often checked in to see if they could get us anything and to ensure we were enjoying our stay. There is dedicated staff as well to help if you need assistance with travel arrangements. The attentive team is always on hand to cater to your needs with warmth and professionalism.
