Marriott’s Fall 2017 MegaBonus rewards travelers with a free night at a category 1-5 hotel after two paid stays. All someone has to do is stay one night at any participating Marriott’s Membership Rewards hotel twice over the course of four months. The reward is a free night certificate worth up to 25,000 rewards points, or possibly a few hundred dollars. The bonus also states, that after two stays, it will unlock more bonuses. The MegaBonus is very vague, but after staying twice at Marriott Hotels this month, my extra bonus is visible.
Marriott is touting the Megabonus will unlock more after two stays. Even the terms and condition of the bonus is very vague. The companies on T&C do not state what this bonus will be. However, it does state there may not be any notifications for the add-on bonus and you MUST sign up for it before the deal expires.
Some of the T&C are below. The bolding is my own.
- If a member completes two qualifying stays during the promotional period, an additional offer may be unlocked and become available in the members account within 2-3 days after the second qualifying stay.
- The member may not receive additional notification except through their online member account and must register for the additional offer within two (2) weeks from the date the additional offer becomes available.
- Maximum one (1) free night award earned with this promotion per member to be redeemed for a future stay at participating Marriott Rewards category 1-5 properties.
- Free night award will expire six (6) months after the date of issuance.
Notice that Marriott is being very quiet on what the secondary bonus will offer. In addition, they are not promising a second or add-on “Unlock More” bonus. The T&C state, an additional bonus may be available. Meaning, not everyone will receive additional offers. Finally, instead of auto enrolling reward members, members must opt into the bonus through the promotions page.
My 2017 MegaBonus Unlock More
Two days after my points posted from stays at different Marriott properties on September 12th and 13th my bonus became visible. Marriott is offering me nothing! That’s right, my MegaBonus is marked as achieved, and nothing more is unlocked. Thanks Marriott for the awesome promotion! Unlock more is really unlock nothing!
I find this to be pretty shocking, as I was hoping the unlock more would be bonus points. After all, two stays over several months is nothing! This year I am Platinum Premier, Marriott’s secrete elite level. I thought that as Marriott’s top-tier and most loyal customer, the bonus might be more enticing. Clearly not! I attempted to reach out on twitter to see if this was a glitch, but the response I received via direct message was vague. It also confirmed my suspicion. There is currently nothing to unlock!
On further investigation on Flyertalk, it seems that NO ONE has a second bonus. We can chalk this up to a good plan with extremely poor execution by Marriott. A job well done Marriott! Will there be something to unlock in the future? Who knows, in the meantime I’ll continue to look at my promotions every few days and plan future stays at Hiltons where I can earn double points through December!
