The optimist in me wouldn’t say the US Mobile deal is dead, but at best, it seems to be on life support. (note- it is dead)
Last month, I shared my experience using US Mobile WiFi on various domestic (Gogo) and internationally configured (Panasonic) planes plus Boingo in public places on the ground. I renewed after my first month expired, and have used it a few times since, and it is still working fine. Unfortunately, following a discussion of this subject in Flyertalk, it seems that this monthly offer is no longer available.
Looking at the US Mobile site, the deal now shows as “Sold out”:
Is the US Mobile deal too good to be true?
Probably so. US Mobile charges $10/month. To buy these products separately, costs would include: $50/month for gogo on a single airline, around $20 for Panasonic wifi on a single international flight, plus Boingo is around $10/month. $10/month for a single device is just a crazy good deal.
As a reminder, the offer from US Mobile consists reselling access to an iPass login. The iPass app and credentials are used to access wifi on the various networks from the single device with the US Mobile subscription.
What’s next for US Mobile Wifi?
I’m hoping that somehow when my month is up, more passes will be available. That way I’ll be able to renew, but that seems optimistic. I have several weeks left on my current month, so I’m still using this deal while I can. I’d certainly continue to use this if it is available, but I don’t have high hopes. With only 2 months into the US Mobile wifi deal, I was still basically just testing it out. It seems dead, but I certainly saved a lot of money while it lasted.
Alternatively, finding some other way to get an iPass account would be worthwhile. This is normally used for corporate accounts, and to my knowledge, single accounts are not available.
I’ve heard mixed reports for how well this worked, but in my case, I’ve been happy. There is a huge opportunity for savings here. Most of all on internationally configured planes where wifi on a single flight is often more than a monthly subscription with this US Mobile deal.
If you joined up with this deal, and are unable to continue, what are your plans going forward?
