When American Airlines announced their inaugural flights between Dallas and Chicago scheduled for tomorrow, May 7, 2014, I quickly booked a flight and secured an economy seat on the Dreamliner. Playing a guessing game, I was able to shave hundreds of dollars on my 787 inaugural flight ticketand score a seat for less than $300.
The next issue I had to figure out was how to get home from Chicago and if I wanted to spend the weekend there or elsewhere. In the end I decided to book a ticket back to home via DFW, but instead of flying the Dreamliner I booked a ticket on a Mad Dog. This would allow me to experience both the new and rustic feel of American Airlines. Not to mention, the MD-80 flight was nearly $400 cheaper than the Dreamliner inaugural return flight!

Today when I checked in for my return flight from Chicago, I decided to browse the same day change options to see what was available. I didn’t expect any seats to be open on the 787 return flight from Chicago, as I know the outbound from Dallas flight is booked at capacity and I expected the same for the return.
Yet to my surprise, there was an option to change my departure to the 12:10pm departure, which just happens to be the Dreamliner’s return flight to Dallas! I quickly selected the same day confirm change option, free for Executive Platinums, and did a happy dance as I was now confirmed with a double dose of AA’s 787 magic! Basically a dream come true! In addition to getting a seat on the return flight, I also was able to select a main cabin extra seat! This is great as I will be able to compare a standard economy seat with a main cabin extra seat! PERFECT!
My flight information! A double serving or as I would like to call a #doublewideDelight!
Tonight I will be dreaming in doubles and tomorrow I shall enjoy a twofold inauguration celebration!
