Long time Virgin America fans can rejoice, as Alaska Airlines has brought back the Safety Dance! The new safety dance is a catchy commercial instead of a preflight safety video, but has a similar theme: inflight safety and passenger requirements.
The new video made a premier on Sunday, December 13th and hit the airwaves as an instant hit! The new safety dance, focuses on pandemic safety and is a brilliant play of the 1982 song, The Safety Dance. The commercial features Alaska Airlines employees sharing ways you can stay safe and still travel during the pandemic. If you haven’t seen it yet, be sure to watch the video.
Before Alaska Airlines merged with Virgin America, the hip and tech focus airline had a safety video dubbed the safety dance. Some people loved it, others hated it. Yet, it was a great way to grab passengers attention and increase people’s likelihood of watching the safety demonstration. Something that is usually highly ignored as passengers zone out while awaiting departure.
Although the safety dance is new to Alaska Airlines, Alaska Airlines flight attendants have a long history of dancing. Alaska Airlines flight attendants have their own volunteer dance crew. Dancers are known for showing off their skills and put them on display on parades across the West Coast. Now these dances are taking to the airwaves. Read the entire behind the scene story of how Alaska’s employees practiced and prepared for this commercial.
What safety dance do you prefer? The #VXsafetydance or the #ASsafetyDance? A bit different, but fantastic marketing. How no other airline has thought of this before now really surprises me. Great job Alaska marketing. A bit campy, but absolutely perfect for the world we live in today.
