When American Airlines and US Airways merged, Citi Bank won the rights to continue issuing American Airlines co-branded credit cards, however Barclaycard had the rights to issue US Airways co-branded credit cards and then maintain accounts already opened before the demise of US Airways. Since the merger completed and dividend miles were sunsetted, Barclaycard has been issuing AA miles to cardholders on one of three cards. And with the miles/credit cards have come quite a few bonus opportunities to earn additional miles. These bonus opportunities continue to make holding on to this card well worth it! Especially as Barclaycard has been eager to wave annual fees to keep card members!
Last month Barclaycard sent out an opportunity to earn 30,000 bonus miles for spending $2,500 a month on the card each month Decemeber – May. I opted not to take part in that high spending bonus, but I will take part in their latest promotion which offers 2x miles at Movie Theaters, Grocery Stores, and Utility bills!
“From January 1 through March 31, 2016, you’ll earn 2 bonus miles for every $1 spent when you use your Barclaycard Arrival™ MasterCard® for supermarket purchases, movie theater purchases and utility payments (including electric, gas, water, television and telephone) up to 2,500 bonus miles.¹”
This bonus will be easy to max out through grocery store gift card purchases or just normal shopping and bill payment! As I do not carry the American Express Everyday card, this will be the only card in my wallet that offers 2x miles/points at grocery stores.
This promotion does appear to be targeted, so check your Barclaycard online account to see if your eligible or check your spam box for a email that says “Three easy ways to earn bonus miles” from email@example.com. As this is one promotion you do not want to miss out on!
