Hyatt’s latest winter promo starts this weekend. Beginning today you can register for Bonus Journeys, a promotion that includes double points as well as an extra 1,500 bonus points if you’re a World of Hyatt credit card member. Your stay must include a checkout date between February 15 and May 15, 2020.
There are two downsides. The first is that these benefits only begin on your second stay. So while I have an upcoming reservation at the Thompson Seattle this weekend, I won’t be able to get the bonus because it’s my first stay. I can’t possible book a quick mattress run here in Austin to start the counter early.
(Shame. It’s not a cheap hotel, either!)
The second downside is that this promotion is capped at 100,000 bonus points, although I don’t expect many people would be reaching that limit. To put it in perspective, you earn 5 base points per dollar. A bonus of 100,000 points would mean spending $20,000 (or a little less if you include the weekend stay bonuses). Hopefully you have a winter beach vacation coming up!
You must register for the promotion between now and March 31, and register before your first stay in order to be eligible for the bonus points. Be sure to register now so you don’t forget.
Eligible reservations include the following:
- Over 875 Hyatt hotels, including new additions like Thompson
- Over 10 participating MGM Resorts locations, including Bellagio and Aria
- Over 300 participating Small Luxury Hotels of the World
- Over 300 Lindblad Expedition cruises to Antarctica, the Galapagos, and other exotic destinations
Overall I view this as a nice promotion. It’s simple and it’s relatively generous. I don’t like the second stay requirement. More and more hotel loyalty programs seem to be doing that, and it just feels like a gimmick to lower their costs rather than reward a customer. Even if that one stay is the only reservation someone makes during the promotional period, that’s still a stay you won from a competitor, right?

Double Points bonus: You must be a member of World of Hyatt and register for the promotion between February 5 and March 31, 2020 to participate. Hyatt and World of Hyatt Credit Card additional bonus: Beginning on your second eligible stay during the Promotion Period, you will receive an additional 1,500 Bonus Points per eligible stay, starting with your second stay, that includes a Friday, Saturday or Sunday night during the Promotion Period. World of Hyatt will only fulfill the promotion for eligible stays completed after your registration date. Maximum 100,000 Bonus Points may be earned for the Hyatt and World of Hyatt Credit Card bonus during the promotion period.
Only Base Points are doubled, and all points awarded under this promotion are Bonus Points. For the purpose of this promotion, an “Eligible Stay” is defined as any night where a member is paying an Eligible Rate for at least one night of their stay. Stays on consecutive nights at the same hotel will constitute one stay. Only the room occupied by the Member will count toward this promotion. You must provide your World of Hyatt membership number at the time of check-in for each stay. Please allow two to three weeks after your qualifying stay for Bonus Points to be posted to your World of Hyatt account.
