Starwood Preferred Guest announced their fall promotion, “More for You,” that provides double or triple points on your next stay. While single night stays receive no bonus, you’ll get twice as many Starpoints for stays of two nights or more. If your stay includes a Friday or Saturday — Thursday or Friday in the Middle East — you’ll get three times as many Starpoints. As many of my stays are weekend trips for Friday and Saturday, this works great for me.
I think it’s pretty generous in its simplicity, and I’m not bothered by the two-night minimum because SPG does a decent job incentivizing customers to earn status through incremental nights. Status is still an option for those who earn with stays, but more benefits go to those who earn with nights. Customers can also earn status faster with credit for up to three rooms and for carrying a Starwood Amex.
Registration is now open, and bonus points will be applied for stays between September 15 and December 15. You must register by October 31. As with all promotions, register now even if you have no plans to stay at a Starwood hotel. You may forget to register if you later book a stay at the last minute or if you book a stay after the registration deadline.
Although over 1,000 hotels are participating, Starwood has many more than that in their system. It’s unfortunate that so many have chosen not to participate. I like to check the local hotels to get a baseline (ironic because I’m less likely to stay there) and the exclusion list includes all six properties in the Seattle area. Not promising as a yard stick, but not uncommon either. Check out a complete list of non-participating hotels on the registration page.

(For what it’s worth, Loyalty Lobby seems to think that “Friday or Saturday” means a stay including both nights would earn only double points. I’m of the opinion that because “or” is more inclusive than “and” the conditions are still satisfied for triple points if I book a weekend stay.)
