I’ve been traveling seemingly almost nonstop for much of this year, but finally had the chance for a short vacation with family. We visited the Andaz Penninsula Papagayo last year as somewhat of a ‘babymoon’, and this year we returned with our daughter.
We only made this trip for an extended weekend, but it was still great to get away. I’m not as adventurous traveling with my daughter as is Carly, but it was good to be with her. Now that she is (very) mobile, keeping her entertained on an airplane and at a resort is a bit more effort whan when we took her to Europe earlier this year. At the Andaz, there was no availability for booking with cash and points and no suites available with points. I could have paid cash, and used a Diamond Suite Upgrade, but I figured I’d save the cash. The room we had was much smaller, but the property is very nice, especially with various perks afforded as as a Hyatt Diamond.
Regarding my personal travels, I’m still grinding my way to 100,000 PQM on United, and it looks like I’ll make it based on my upcoming and expected business travel. Things are going better for me on United this year versus last, but I’m only subjecting myself to this for the System Wide Upgrades. I had 100% success upgrading my long haul flights in advance with GPUs this year on United.
I also want to remind NYC based readers of the Reach for the Miles meetup that Mike is organizing. I’m working in the city this week, and I’m looking forward to some travel talk on Wednesday, November 18. It looks like there are already 60 people signed up. I’ve been to a few of these, and its always good to see fellow geeks, and talk travel and usually miles and points. Hope to see some of you at Hurley’s Bar next week!
