I wrote just a short time ago about the discounts that FoundersCard was adding for members who purchase first class Mint fares on JetBlue. Now, they’ve added even more discounts for people who purchase main cabin and first class on Alaska Airlines and Virgin America! (I believe that FoundersCard already offered similar discounts for Virgin America, so only the Alaska Airlines benefit is new.)
To obtain the discount you must log into your FoundersCard account, navigate to the offer, and request a discount code that will then be emailed to you. Each code can be used once for up to four people and functions much like Alaska’s other discount codes, such as the ones that you use to book companion fares online. However, the terms and conditions specifically say it’s only for travel within the continental U.S. and Canada — no discounts on Hawaii! I also found difficulty finding discounts on first class fares, so either there is a blackout date I’m not aware of or there is still a bug with the discount.
This makes the FoundersCard more valuable to me, though I admit it didn’t start out as an amazing deal. A variety of other discounts may be available through other channels, such as Hilton Honors Gold status (get an Amex Platinum Card) or 20% off on Silvercar rentals (get a Chase Sapphire Reserve).
Still, I do fly Alaska Airlines quite a bit, and I even consider their first class cabin worth paying for on occasion when I think my upgrade odds are low. Being able to save a few bucks is a good value. One of the big caveats, however, is that the promotion is only through the end of this year for travel through February 28, 2018. This seems to be the case with may FoundersCard benefits that may — or may not — be extended during your membership year.
HT to Amol for bringing this to my attention.
