Every airline offers top tier elites extra perks to differentiate them from other elites on their airline. As upgrades to first class diminish due to cheap first class fares and cheap upgrades, airlines are adding extra perks in the coach cabin for frequent flyers. As most airlines in the US now offer free meals to top tier elites, Alaska Airlines offers inflight entertainment players for top tier elite passengers. Alaska Airline also offers mid-tier elites and top tier elites free drinks when traveling in coach.
To my surprise, this last week when traveling in coach in Alaska Airlines I did not opt for my free drink when flying coach. When I politely denied the flight attendant’s offers to “buy me a drink”, she then asked if she could offer me some chocolate instead. I was surprised by this offer, as never before was I offered chocolate while flying in coach! I took the flight attendant up on the offer, and was handed two delicious chocolate bars made by Seattle’s chocolate. I later found out that Alaska Airline’s offers chocolate to top tier elites who decline the complimentary adult beverage. The Flight attendant also told me that often times they have extra chocolate bars on board, so even if you opt for the drink, there’s no harm in asking for some chocolate!
Cheers to Alaska! Although this is not a free meal, it’s a sweat little perk to enjoy in the back of the plane! And Seattle Chocolate is damn delicious!
