One of the advantages to celebrating your birthday on the other side of the International Date Line is that it lasts really long. After celebrating it here in Singapore, it was still going on States-side while I enjoyed a glass of Champagne at the Private Room in Singapore Airline’s SilverKris first class lounge.
However, I was much more impressed with the service I received at the Grand Hyatt Singapore. Over four days, they provided exemplary service and even came through with a generous resolution to a dilemma I had with our room assignment. Because of that, they deserve some good press, starting with the cake below which could’ve been so much nicer with cute greeting cards.
Not only did they remember my birthday, they even got the “Dr.” part right. 😉 The Diamond welcome amenity wasn’t bad, either. Actually, I met so many staff members who remembered my name, never failing to greet us in the elevator or in the hallway, that I feel embarrassed for not doing a better job of remembering them. It’s almost like they had a dossier with my photo they passed around before our arrival.
Things didn’t start out this smoothly, but everything turned out well in the end. In fact, I had such a great time in Singapore that I think it’s already fair to say that they provided one of the best hotel stays I’ve ever enjoyed. More about the issue and its resolution tomorrow.
