It’s been quiet on RegionalFirst of late, but that is because I’m really enjoying my time mostly disconnected at the Park Hyatt Maldives.

Prior to our arrival here, we did some touring in places new to us in Southeast Asia. We spent a few days each in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. Figuring on lots of low key beach time in the Maldives, we opted to visit cities on the first portion of the trip. On our way to Singapore, we had an excellent experience in Singapore Airlines First Class.
The site is called Upgrd, so I’m pleased to report much success obtaining upgrades on the trip thus far. Our flights were already booked in ‘top’ cabins, so no upgrades there, but we did have some excellent personalized service in Singapore First, particularly on the Seoul to Singapore leg.
As seems to be the case, I had some mixed success with the Starwood Suite Night Awards. I had several Starwood stays booked on our trip, and applied suite nights for all of them. The Westin at the San Francisco Airport upgrade request was not successful. However, upon arrival we were upgraded to an excellent executive suite. I’m happy for the free upgrade, but the upgrade program needs some work. This is content for another blog post at some point in the future. We were able to confirm upgrades in advance for both the Westin Kuala Lumpur and the Sheraton Towers Singapore (the latter is a brief stay the night before our flights home).
We also had a nice stay at the Conrad Centennial in Singapore (upgraded one category to Business room via Gold status). We got an amazing upgrade which I will discuss in detail later for our one night at the Hilton Kuala Lumpur. I have essentially given up on Hilton due to various HHonors program devaluations, but these stays were quite nice. After these bookings, my point balance is nearly zeroed out.
Finally, we received a free upgrade to a pool villa at the Park Hyatt Maldives. Occupancy seems pretty low, and they mentioned the upgrade was due to my Diamond status. My first impressions of this property are just to recommend you come here. This place is amazing.

Many more details and a full trip report will follow on all of these properties and much more as soon as I am able.
