As reported by Doctor of Credit, Hilton has a new promo just announced for fall 2019. It is similar to many in the past, with double base points on all stays. (That means you get double points before things like elite bonuses are added on top.) But the better part is that customers who pay with a Hilton credit card from American Express will be able to receive triple points!
The fall promo is available for stays at any hotel in the Hilton portfolio when you stay between September 9, 2019, and January 5, 2020. That makes it attractive to anyone considering booking a hotel over the holidays. You must register for the promotion before your first stay.
Note: The promo was discovered on Sunday a little early, but some people got a 404 error. The registration page should be live today.
Remember, the promotion only offers double or triple base points. These base points are the points you normally earn at Hilton properties before any other bonuses are calculated. Most hotels offer 10 base points per dollar, though a few limited service brands such as Home2Suites provide 5 base points.
Hilton Honors points aren’t worth a ton — typically about 0.5 cent each — but they’re really easy to earn. Consider a hypothetical $500 night stay as a Diamond member with a Hilton Honors Aspire credit card from American Express. This card includes free Diamond status and a bunch of other perks that I consider worth more than the $450 annual fee.
You’d earn 5,000 base points, 5,000 elite bonus points for Diamond members, and another 5,000 points from this fall promotion. You’re already at 15,000 points, worth about $75. It’s true that using any credit card has an opportunity cost, since you choose not to earn points with a different card, but the Hilton Aspire credit card earns another 14 points per dollar and another 5,000 promotional bonus points, bringing the total to 27,000 points earned on this hypothetical stay.
