Hong Kong and Macau Part 9: Singapore Airlines SilverKris Lounge at HKG

I took the Turbojet boat from Macau directly to the Hong Kong airport, which was very convenient. I was able to check in immediately and took a short airtrain ride to my terminal, where I’d be flying First Class on Singapore Airlines from HKG-SFO. The boat ride and check-in process ended up being a lot faster than I expected, so I was at the airport about 3 hours early. Thankfully there was a Singapore SilverKris lounge that I could relax at.

Check-in was simple and quick, and I walked in to a completely empty lounge. And I mean literally empty, except for a worker here and there. I apparently I was so early that I was the first one to the lounge, which was fine by me. I had plenty of seats to choose from.

The seating area was simple enough, but there was also a significant-sized kitchen area that had a good food selection, including plenty of hot foods. I’m not sure if I was just really hungry or something, but the food was particularly good for a lounge.

As you can see, there are plenty of chafing dishes and other foods available. Unfortunately my phone was taking some pretty blurry pictures (yes, I’m blaming the phone and not me) so the descriptions are hard to read, but at least the pics below will give you a good idea of how many options there were.

Lounge food!

More food!

Different kinds of food.

What Asian lounge is complete with out this section?

And here come the drinks.

Even more drinks.

Soft drinks!

I know this plate of food looks bland, but it was actually pretty good.

A little while after having that plate of food, it was time to go to the bathroom (don’t worry, I’m going somewhere with this). Unfortunately as I came to learn, there was no bathroom in the lounge! You had to walk outside the lounge to the public restroom that was adjacent to the lounge, then check back in when you returned. While not the worst thing ever, this was pretty inconvenient. I was actually hoping to get a shower in before the flight also before realizing that there wasn’t one in this lounge. I should have done my research!

The lounge filled up quickly once we hit the 2 hour mark leading up to the flight, and it would actually have been very difficult to find a seat if you got there late. Thankfully I was already seated comfortably and getting some work done on my computer. Everyone started filing out of the lounge and to the gate with just under an hour to go.

While the lounge was big and the food was pretty good, I found the lack of a bathroom in the lounge to be quite annoying. If I’d realized it earlier, I actually would have gone to the United/Thai lounge since I’m a Star Alliance Gold member because it seems to be much better than the SilverKris lounge. The only problem was that the Thai lounge was in a different part of the airport and I’d have to take an airtrain to get there, so it wasn’t possible once I figured out what I wanted to do.

Oh well…you live and you learn!

  1. I’ve bee to the SilverKris and it was spectacular! Food was superb! We were on our way back to Manila and was so happy their Manila lounge was much better than Cathay. Food was better, too! I like your pictures! I would love to go back to Asia so I can book back with TravelRepublic.co.uk
