Fine white sand between your toes, 70-80+ degree weather, glistening blue water year round, a beach side pool overlooking the water for those who don’t enjoy ocean swimming, a tiki bar and a beach side restaurant all in one place can only mean you’re at a phenomenal beach resort and of course the one I’m talking about is the North Redington Beach Doubletree Beach resort in Florida. The resort sits not even 100 feet from the sparkling Gulf of Mexico on one of Florida’s best beaches, located only a short drive from downtown Saint Petersburg. Offering Gulf view and territorial view room, the gulf rooms are a must, so you can enjoy this pristine view all day long.
Like all DoubleTree hotels, guests are welcomed with their signature warm cookie at check in and as a Hilton Gold member, I was upgraded to a gulf view room despite only paying for a city view. In addition, I received free in-room internet and continental breakfast for both myself and my travel companion. If this wasn’t gracious enough, this resort has upgraded their Gold & Platinum members to a full breakfast which included not only the breakfast buffet but eggs cooked to order—yummy
Our room was located on the top floor away from the elevator. The room was a perfect place to call home while in St. Petersburg and a great place to come back to after a long day in the office. The hotel has all the amenities needed for the simple traveler for those of us who believe a hotel is for sleeping, not spending an entire vacation in. The room was simple, with a tropical theme; the veranda had modest but comfortable deck furniture that is perfect for a tranquil moment while listening to the petite waves of the gulf roll ashore or a viewing point of the sun setting over the water. Our king suite included our bed, a work station, a chair for resting and bathroom with the sinks separated. This is especially nice, allowing one person to freshen up while another showers. The room was completed with a mini fridge and a mini bar. I personally am a huge fan of mini fridges in my room and I found this little extra a nice surprise.
The hotel itself was rather simple but nice. Its location was perfect with plenty of restaurants and bars in walking distance and two community piers and parks on either side. The hotel rented cabanas on the beach for two for $25 a day and even had catamarans to rent (I did not inquire on the price). The Tiki bar had a daily happy hour and even a drink special where if you left a comment on their facebook page or foursquare check in and charged the bill to your room you received a $5 credit, which was enough for a beer or a well drink! Although the price of the hotel was slightly over priced at $215 a night, the price easily dropped to $120 if prepaid, and for being directly on the water the price is totally worth it! Not to mention the prices in the bars and restaurants felt on par with the restaurants in the area, so for once I did not feel like I was over paying for a meal or a drink in the hotel.

I was excited to see the in-room recycling containers
If you’re looking for a vacation place in Florida, this is a place I’d highly recommend. Although simple, it has everything you need and is even closer to more. Also if you’re in the area, walk across the street and eat at The Conch Republic. It has the vibe of a sports bar but food that is easily a 10/10 in my books. The prices are great, the staff is friendly, and even when I was there on a Monday night the place was packed with locals. I actually had to wait for a table at 7pm on a Monday! It’s that good! So pack your bags and get away! The Doubletree in North Redington is the perfect escape for a romantic getaway for you & your love one or a relaxing beach family vacation! For the location and the vibe of this hotel could equal a romantic getaway or a family escape!
