Japan Airlines announced yesterday that they will FINALLY be rolling out premium amenity kits to their business class customers on long haul flights after myself and many other customers voiced to Japan Airlines that their grab and go system made them feel more like a discount carrier than a true premium airline. The airline will offer two different color Tumi bags, offering a black Tumi amenity bag on outbound flights and Red Tumi bags on inbound flights to Japan.
The Tumi amenity kits appear to be very similar to those offered on Delta or Air Berlin but with a different product line inside. The new Amenity kits will be equipped with eye masks, chap stick, a toothbrush set, moisture eye mast (more like a wet nap from my experience), ear plugs, and a ballpoint pen. Although the kits are lacking any type of moisturizer, it does offer all the same grab and go amenities that JAL currently offers, but in a premium clutch by Tumi instead.
The new Tumi amenity kits will be offered on outbound flights starting October 6 and on all inbound flights starting October 7, 2014. The following routes will receive the new kits:
Tokyo (Haneda) to San Francisco, London and Paris
Tokyo (Narita) to Chicago, Boston, New York, Los Angeles, San Diego, Vancouver, Frankfurt, Helsinki, Paris, Moscow, Sydney
JAL has also announced that a new design will be released this spring. The new design appears to look more like a women’s clutch than an amenity kit and will make those individuals which collect amenity kits or the fashionistas happy.
This is defiantly a step in the right direction, as I was not happy with the grab and go system on my JAL 787 flight to San Diego last year and I just wish JAL would offer true premium products to go in their premium amenity bag!
