HawaiianMiles is Hawaiian Airlines loyalty program. I am far from an active member, but I’ve banked some miles on inter-island flights in the past. We also took a JetBlue flight in the Caribbean that we credited to Hawaiian. I don’t think the program has a lot of value, but I also don’t want to waste miles. It has been a while since my last mileage activity, and I noticed that I was getting close to expiration.
Rather than let the miles expire, I explored some options to generate some activity. Some easy options are no longer available. Hawaiian doesn’t participate in E-rewards, which is something I use to keep inactive accounts from expiring. Shopping portals still work, and that is easy enough, however I found an arguably even easier way to keep Hawaiian Airlines accounts active; donating to charity.
Donating HawaiianMiles to Charity
This process is quite easy. Login to HawaiianMiles account. Scroll down the left side of the page, and click on Donate miles.
As little as one mile can be donated, and this activity resets the 18 month mileage expiry. Unfortunately, the expiration date is not displayed on the Hawaiian website but this can be confirmed by customer service. Additionally I spoke to an agent using online chat, and they confirmed that donating miles will reset the clock.
Numerous Hawaiian charities partner with the airline to accept donations of miles. American Cancer Society of Hawaii, American Red Cross of Hawaii, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Hawaii, The Coral Reef Alliance, and several more. Worthy charities, and this is a nice way to keep your account active.
Don’t let those miles expire! There are various options to generate activity in your mileage accounts. Donating to Hawaiian charities is nice and easy way to keep your HawaiianMiles active, as well as supporting a good cause.
