When life gives you lemons, you make lemonade… Right? Right???
Well, we were tossed a couple lemons right around the same time.
Lemon One: The St. Regis Mauritius announced that it would not make its October 1 opening date. It would be pushed back to November 1. We were set to arrive in Mauritius on October 14. Great.
Lemon Two: The US Embassy in Egypt was attacked. Protestors tore down the American flag, burned it, and there were protests all around the Muslim world.
Solution One: We got rebooked by the St. Regis at the Four Seasons in Mauritius. It should be quite a nice place, but we were excited to stay at the St. Regis, especially given the note they sent me originally:
We are delighted to welcome you to our beautiful resort for your honeymoon.
As our first SPG Platinum guest we are pleased to upgrade you to our St Regis Suite and offer you a bonus of 1000 starpoints upon check in.
Oh Well…
Solution Two: I’m sure we could go to Egypt, and we would be just fine. That being said, both of our familes were quite concerned about the issues there, and the purpose of our honeymoon isn’t to put our familes on high alert. Thus, we looked for a place where we could get in and out of with Star Alliance miles that was *relatively* on our route… and we settled on Cape Town, South Africa. Thus, the honeymoon won’t be going to Egypt, anymore, and instead we’ll be spending time in Cape Town.
Even though we had this trip planned WAY in advance, these were definitely a few last minute changes that really had us scrambling in the end!
