Hilton’s new “Go More, Get More” promotion will run from May 1 through August 31, 2017. Like past promotions it offers an easy way for members to earn bonus points on all stays, including one-night stays, with no excluded properties. However, Diamond elite members will get a higher earning rate of 3X bonus points, compared to 2X points for all other members.
These bonuses apply to base points only. Most properties earn 10 base points per dollar, although you get just 5 base points per dollar at Tru and Home2Suites. Most members who earn 2X points will receive an additional 10 points or 5 points per dollar. Diamond members who earn 3X points through the promotion will earn an additional 20 points or 10 points per dollar.
Finally, any normal bonus points you earn for elite status, Double Dip, or using a Hilton credit card will also apply.
Here’s an example of how it adds up. Imagine you have a $500 stay at a Hilton hotel, have Gold elite status with Hilton Honors, and pay with a Hilton Surpass credit card from American Express. During this promotion you could earn a total of 19,750 points (39.5 points per dollar):
- 500 * 10 = 5,000 base points
- 500 * 2.5 = 1,250 elite points (25% Gold bonus on base points)
- 500 * 10 = 5,000 promotional points (promotional bonus on base points, 2X total)
- 500 * 5 = 2,500 bonus points for “Points and Points” Double Dip earning option
- 500 * 12 = 6,000 credit card points for paying with Hilton Surpass Amex (12X earning rate)
Of course, Hilton Honors still has one of the more expensive award charts in absolute terms. Award nights range from 5,000 to 95,000 points per night. But you can see from the breakdown above that the earning rate is also very high. In relative terms, I’ve found that Hilton’s award costs are reasonable — certainly not as bad as they first appear and often a good deal at some less expensive properties. So be sure to register for this promotion before your next stay!
