Last month, I talked about my dismay at the loss of the Flight Track Pro app. Since then, I tried a few other apps as I look for a replacement. One option that was mentioned in the comments of that post was about an app called MyFlights. With a few trips since then, I’ve been able to use this, and I wanted to share some feedback.
MyFlights Basics
MyFlights syncs with Tripit, which is something I missed when Flight Track Pro stopped working. It also provides customizable notifications when there are any changes to a booking. These notifications are pushed to a phone, or sent via email.
Here is a video that shows the basics.
Notifications are nearly instant, but in my experience they aren’t always specific. Meaning, any change to a reservation with generate a notification, but the app highlights that a change was made, but it is not always obvious what changed. In my experience, seat changes and upgrades work well. As for delays, there doesn’t seem to be instant notifications. There are no updates showing changes to flights status, or actual departure and arrival times.
My trips thus far since testing this out have been on American, which isn’t expressly supported by My Flights, so maybe this is part of the issues I’ve encountered. My Flights is based on the Amadeus system, so carriers on Amadeus would likely work better.
Comparing My Flights to TripCase
In my post decrying the loss of Flight Track Pro, I mentioned TripCase as a replacement. I think MyFlights are better for my needs, but TripCase still works well. TripCase has some annoying built-in ads, but overall the interface looks better. To me, it just seems more professional feeling than MyFlights, and that is likely because of the nature of the apps. MyFlights is created by a person, TripCase is part of large travel company, Sabre.
TripCase is easier for flight tracking, there are easy notifications for flight delays. It also shows more flight details such as flight times and seat maps. Trips booked with a Sabre airline are in the app automatically. But without TripIt integration, some manual intervention is required for other carriers.
My Flights is (part of) my Solution
My Flights has helped since I started using it, so thanks to a past commenter who suggested it. I’m not ready to proclaim this is the best standalone replacement for Flight Track Pro, but at least for me I’ve been able to take advantage of it as one of several options I use. I share this recommendation for you, and again ask if it is something you have tried that I’m missing. Any other apps you’d recommend?
