My wife and I are heading to Bali in Cathay Pacific First Class. It is my first time on Cathay Pacific, and my first time in International First Class since my Thailand trip in late 2010. I’m definitely ready to experience Cathay’s renowned service. This trip will be my first time to Indonesia, and the HKG-YYZ trip will be the longest flight I’ve ever taken.

We are flying from Chicago to Hong Kong, have a short stopover to explore one of my favorite cities, then onward to Bali for the bulk of our trip. We then fly back to HKG, have a short overnight, then fly to Toronto. I bought a separate ticket from YYZ back to Chicago.
Availability for the long flights on Cathay Pacific was decent, but not ideal for the exact dates and times I preferred, which is how I ended up with that routing, but I’m still quite happy with our plans. This was booked before the British Airways mileage devaluation, so each ticket was 150,000 BA miles for first class the whole way. Matthew and others also discussed their plans for booking trips with BA miles before the change in November 2011.
We are staying at the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong in Central HK on the first leg, then at the Hyatt Regency Hong Kong in Kowloon before we head for home. In Bali we are splitting our time between the Laguna Resort in Nusa Dua (Starwood Luxury Collection) and the Hyatt Bali in Sanur. We don’t have any big plans in Bali, other than some relaxation, hopefully exploring the culture a bit, plus maybe some scuba diving and good food. I’ll have a full trip report after I return.
While putting this post together, I realized that I am at the one year anniversary for my blog here at Upgrd. I have had the good fortune to travel to some exciting places in the last year, and I’m about to embark on another fun trip. Thanks for reading this year, I hope to continue to bring interesting content moving forward. Thanks for your comments and suggestions!
