Do you use Flight Track Pro, a mobile app for flight tracking? While it is an old interface, and the app hadn’t been updated in a long while, I really liked just how simple it was. Given my travel patterns, the functionality was great. It synced TripIt, so it automatically tracked my flights. Thanks to a Starbucks giveaway some years back, the $9.99 app was free to me.
Flight Track Pro: The Good Old Days
With Flight Track Pro, I’d get a notification before my flight, including inbound flights, and any delays would pop up as well. The interface isn’t very pretty, but it worked well for flight tracking. It was easy to track any flights I had planned, and searching any other flights was simple too. Best of all, it was essentially automatic, I didn’t think about it, it just provided information before travel.
In the last few weeks, Mobiata, the company who made Flight Track Pro stopped supporting the program. Expedia acquired Mobiata, and supposedly the Expedia App will integrate some of their features. Officially, Mobiata stopped supporting this version some time ago, and created a new version without TripIt integration, but Flight Track Pro still worked, until it didn’t. For me, it is now dead. I can’t search flight, link trips, anything.
Note: Mobiata also made a cool FlightBoard app which is also discontinued. I didn’t use this app, but I have spoken to a few people who did, and they are also seeking a replacement.
Are there any other Flight Track Pro (or FlightBoard) users who are still able to use the app?
What Alternatives Are Available?
App in the Air
I tried out App in the Air, and while the interface is appealing, the free app is pretty watered down. I’m not against paying for something that works, but based on my initial trials, it isn’t what I was looking for. I’m not opposed to trying it out again, but I’ve moved on to Trip Case.
TripCase
This is my current replacement for Flight Track Pro. I have accessed this program online for several months, mostly for monitoring Systemwide Upgrades on American Airlines, but only recently have I downloaded the mobile App. So far, it seems like the best option I’ve tried. TripCase is a Sabre product, so airlines that use Sabre (such as AA) easily link with it, but I haven’t had problems with other airlines so far, although I haven’t tested it extensively. Record locators/PNRs from Sabre will update in real-time. If the trip is not linked in TripCase automatically, sending the itinerary via email will allow for tracking in the app and on the website.
Concur
The bulk of my travels are for business, booked with my corporate travel agency. These trips are automatically added to the Concur app. I mostly use this app for business expenses, but it has decent flight tracking functionality. I rarely use it for tracking, at least so far since I had other (and more preferred) options.
Flight Aware
I like flight aware for looking up flight information, but this app requires manual entry of flights in order to track. I’m looking for something more automated.
TripCase for Now…
Tripcase is not ideal, but it is the best replacement I’ve found so far.
I’m hoping others who have used Flight Track Pro have other suggestions for apps that can replace what we lost with FTP. What other apps would you recommend for easy flight tracking?
Update: While I use Trip Case to some extent, I think my preferred replacement is My Flights. I still miss Flight Track Pro, but this seems like the best option for now.
