I’m not gonna lie. Barney’s Beanery isn’t the greatest restaurant. The food is meh, the service is slow and wait time can be long during peak travel times. But as a free food option for Priority Pass members, I’m actually bummed this restaurant will be leaving the network soon. Doctor of Credit just reported that Barney’s Beanery LAX will be leaving the Priority Pass network on November 30, 2018. Some people may not see this as much of a loss but for me, having options, even sub-par options, is always better than having no options at all.
Not to be confused with the original icon in West Hollywood, Barney’s Beanery LAX is located airside (post-security) in terminal 2, adjacent to gate 22. The restaurant is open from 5:30 AM to 12:00 AM daily and is open to all passengers traveling through LAX. However, Priority Pass membership discounts will only be applied between 10:30 AM and 12:00 AM daily.
Priority Pass members will receive a $28 discount off of their bill. Each $28 deduction counts as a single lounge visit so if you bring a guest, that will be $56 off of your total bill. However, I would be mindful of your individual membership details. Depending on your membership level, $28 off your bill may not be worth it if you pay per use.
And no, before you even ask, you cannot get whatever leftover credit as cash back, if your total bill is lower than your allowed discount. However, the discount can be applied to anything from their entire menu including food, drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) and desserts. Priority Pass membership cards will be accepted with any SAME DAY TRAVEL BOARDING PASS. This means that you technically can get a free meal if you’re departing, transiting or arriving at LAX.
To use your Priority Pass membership, just inform the host(ess) at the front podium. He/she will escort you to a table, swipe your card and notify your server. You will order your food and drinks as normal and a $28 discount will be applied to your bill. And please be courteous, the $28 cannot be applied towards gratuity. If your server deserves it, please tip accordingly. Only one Priority Pass card will be accepted per cardholder, per visit.
So what’s the food like?
It’s your standard airport food, ranging from burgers, soups and salads, to burritos, tacos and quesadillas. There’s really no theme here other than “American” cuisine. Here’s the menu.
And here’s the drink menu.
On this trip, I ordered the Philly cheese steak sandwich, which was served with a side of fries. For the record, I didn’t order it with any modifications. They just ran out of ingredients.
And for dessert, I ordered the “famous” apple pie a la mode…
Barney’s Beanery LAX Bottom Line
If I had to pay for this meal, I would have been pretty disappointed. But since it was free, the overall experience wasn’t bad. If this wasn’t a Priority Pass restaurant, I definitely wouldn’t be recommending it to anyone.
For passengers traveling through terminal 2 of LAX, you will now have one less option to make use of your membership. However, keep in mind that T2 does has an airside shuttle to T3 and TBIT (Tom Bradley International Terminal). If you have time, you can still head over to the other lounge options at TBIT for a quick bite to eat before boarding. Click here for my guide on how to transit through LAX’s different terminals.
