The Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina is a beautiful hotel and conference space located in the heart of downtown San Diego. Located on the Embarcadero Marina, the hotel is within walking distance to many of San Diego’s top attractions including the San Diego Convention Center, Petco Park, Seaport Village, USS Midway and the Gaslamp Quarters. Whether you’re in town for business or pleasure (or both), the Marriott Marquis offers a great space to be productive and explore America’s finest city.
If you have a car, parking will cost you $35/day and valet parking will cost you $50/day but realistically, you won’t need a car staying here. Everything is close by including shops, restaurants, night life and public transportation.
The Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina is a massive property with two 25 story-high towers. The north tower is the original tower and the south tower is the newer addition to the property. Rooms in the north tower will be closer to the grand ballroom and the in-house conference facilities but the Concierge Lounge is located in the south tower. If you are entitled to Concierge Lounge access, request a room in the south tower for easier access to complimentary breakfast, evening hors d’oeuvres and drinks.
On this trip, I stayed here for four days for a work conference. I booked a standard city view room and as a Marriott Rewards Gold member, was upgraded to a bay view room on the Concierge Floor (24th floor) of the south tower. At 400 square feet, my room was quite spacious and furnished with great amenities including a king bed, sitting area and work desk.
I often have to work while traveling so I appreciate it when hotels provide a functional work space in the rooms. The in-room work space was outfitted with a proper writing surface, ergonomic chair and lots of electrical outlets to keep all my devices fully charged. In-room WiFi was provided for $12.95/day (free for all Marriott Rewards members).
Room amenities included an iron/ironing board, in-room safe, mini-fridge, 32-inch LCD television, iPhone speaker dock and a coffee maker. Small bottles of water were provided each day of my stay.
View from the bay view room.
The enclosed bathroom was spacious and modern with a single sink, walk-in shower stall and toilet. Thann bath and body products were provided for your use.
Other hotel amenities included a gift shop, UPS center, pool, fitness center, spa and several restaurants on-site including a Starbucks and a 24-hour eatery. The pool complex is beautiful and would be a great place to hang out on a warm sunny day.
Located on the ground floor of the north tower, the fitness center is one of the better hotel gyms I have visited. The gym is modern, spacious and equipped with a good variety of both cardio and strength equipment. It even has a squat rack and complimentary group fitness classes!
For Marriott Rewards Platinum and Gold members, the Concierge Lounge is only open from Monday to Friday-ish. The lounge closes after breakfast on Friday and re-opens for Sunday evening hors d’oeuvres at 5:30 PM. If you are entitled to lounge access, you will be credited 1000 MR points per day for Saturday and Sunday stays.
Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina Bottom Line
Overall, I really enjoyed my stay here at the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina. The hotel was really convenient for downtown San Diego attractions and everything was within walking or Uber distance. The property itself was beautiful and views of the bay were incredible. My room was spacious and comfortable and I appreciated the proper work space to be productive every night. This really is a great hotel in a great area and I would definitely recommend it.
