Last night I got an email about two new promotions from World of Hyatt, which each offer a way to redeem fewer points at select hotels when you travel in late summer or early autumn. Both offers are described on the Hyatt website.
The first is a rebate on free night awards (something Hyatt has been doing a lot of lately). With this offer you redeem the full value of your award redemption but get 25% of the points back as bonus points after you complete your stay. Even better: no registration is required, but you must stay by November 30, 2019. Participating hotels include:
- Grand Hyatt Athens
- Hyatt Regency Thessaloniki
- Hyatt Centric Milan Centrale
- Park Hyatt Milan
- Hyatt Centric Murano Venice
- Grand Hyatt Playa del Carmen Resort
- Thompson Playa del Carmen Beach House
- Thompson Playa del Carmen Main House
- Andaz Mayakoba Resort Riviera Maya
- Hotel Hesperia Barcelona Tower
- Hotel SOFIA Barcelona
- Park Hyatt Mallorca
- Hesperia Madrid Hotel
- Hyatt Centric Gran Via Madrid
The second promotion is a discount on Points + Cash awards. Now, these are not nearly as valuable as they used to be, when the cash amount was fixed and you redeemed only half as many points as a free night award. Since the change to the program the cash amount is also half as much as the normal paid rate. This means you might be paying more cash in some scenarios.
Perhaps Hyatt has recognized this. The offer is for a 25% discount on the cash portion when you book a Points + Cash award and stay by October 31, 2019. The discount will be reflected in the rate when you book. Again, no registration is necessary. Participating hotels include:
- Hyatt Regency Aruba Resort Spa and Casino
- Andaz Costa Rica Resort at Peninsula Papagayo
- Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa
- Grand Hyatt Playa del Carmen Resort
- Andaz Mayakoba Resort Riviera Maya
- Park Hyatt St. Kitts Christophe Harbour
- Park Hyatt Mallorca
- Grand Hyatt Baha Mar
You can see that the discount on Points + Cash awards is pretty much exclusive to beach destinations that might benefit from a little more interest in the waning days of summer.
However, I quite like the mix of hotels participating in the 25% points rebate mentioned first. Most are in great locations and a good reminder that Hyatt has been adding lots of hotels to its portfolio in the last two years. I didn’t even realize that they had multiple locations in Barcelona, one of my favorite cities and yet a destination that has been openly hostile to new development. Glad to see Hyatt fill that gap.
