New year, new travels! Singapore Air is having a New Year sale and it’s pretty amazing. From now until January 27, 2017, you can book round-trip airfare from the United States to many destination in Asia (and a couple in Europe) for as low as $599! We’re talking destinations such as Tokyo, Frankfurt and and Manchester, England for $599, Hong Kong for $649 and Bali, Bangkok, Koh Samui, Jakarta, Phuket, Siem Reap, Vietnam and others for $675. These are roundtrip prices and inclusive of all taxes and fees. Here are some sample fares.
The only airlines that are offering anything remotely close to these deals are the mainland Chinese carriers (Air China, China Eastern and China Southern) and I can guarantee you, flying Singapore Air will be a much better passenger experience. Singapore Air Economy Class will offer you an industry leading seat up to 19 inches of width, personal in-flight entertainment screens with movies on demand, music and video games, electrical/USB outlets at every seat, complimentary alcoholic drinks during meals and top notch service and catering.
Want to pamper yourself and upgrade to Singapore Air Premium Economy? Fly New York to Frankfurt in Premium Economy on their Airbus A380 for $999, Los Angeles to Seoul or Tokyo for $1099 and other destinations such as Bali, Bangkok, Manila, Phuket, Vietnam and others for $1150. These fares are amazing for Premium Economy Class when normal Economy Class tickets on other airlines can cost almost as much (if not more).
Singapore Air Premium Economy Class will provide you with a smaller and more private cabin, a wider seat up to 19.5 inches, seat pitch up to 38 inches, seat recline up to 8 inches and a leg rest at every seat (not just a foot rest). Singapore Air Premium Economy Class passengers also get upgraded services and amenities such as priority check-in, boarding and baggage handling, “book the cook” dining and an in-flight, amenity kit.

Singapore Air sale limitations
This is a great sale but unfortunately only applies to Singapore Air’s own flights. This sale does not include partner airline flights so you must be departing from one of Singapore Air’s U.S. hubs including Houston, Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York to take advantage of this sale. Additionally, you can only fly to certain destinations from certain origination airports. For example, Frankfurt can only be served from New York; Manchester, England can only be served from Houston; Seoul and Tokyo can only be served from Los Angeles and Hong Kong can only be served from San Francisco, etc. Because of Singapore Air’s route network, most destinations in Southeast Asia will require two stops, making for a very long travel day.
The other limitation is the mileage accrual. This is a great sale for people looking to travel and not necessarily for mileage runners. Economy Class tickets will earn zero or minimal miles but Premium Economy Class tickets will earn significantly more.
Upgrade from Singapore Air Premium Economy to Business Class
If you have a bunch of Singapore Air KrisFlyer miles or Citi Thank You points and don’t know what to do with them, using them to upgrade from Singapore Air Premium Economy Class to Business Class with this sale can be a good deal. I recently took advantage of a similar deal and booked a Premium Economy ticket from Los Angeles to Phuket with my friends. Using 45,000 Singapore Air KrisFlyer miles (38,250 after the online discount), I upgraded my outbound flights from Los Angeles to Phuket (LAX-ICN-SIN-HKT) from Premium Economy to Business Class.
And the best part about using miles to upgrade from Premium Economy to Business Class, it won’t cost you any more money. Upgrading to Business Class does not incur any additional taxes and fees. That’s because the taxes, fees and carrier imposed surcharges were already paid for when you bought the Premium Economy ticket. If you have some Citi Thank You points and don’t know what to do with them, this is not a bad way to spend them. Singapore Air’s upgrade award chart can be found here.
Upgrading your ticket is simple and can be done all online. Once you have purchased your ticket, log into your Singapore Air SilverKris account to manage your reservations. Go to your booking and there will be a link to upgrade your flight using miles. The system will show you available flights to upgrade or wait-list and will give you the 15% online booking discount automatically. Quick tip: if you are planning on using your miles to upgrade, search for Business Class award space prior to booking your Premium Economy ticket.
