Singapore Airlines is having a “Great Getaway” sale and these cheap fares are definitely worth a look. From now until September 24, 2017, you can fly from the United States to many destination in Asia for as low as $600! Some of these great destinations include Bali, Cebu, Da Nang, Kuala Lumpur and Manila for $600; Tokyo and Seoul for $618 and even India is on sale for $713. These prices are for roundtrip travel and are inclusive of all taxes and fees.
If you can travel from Houston, certain European destinations are also on sale such as Amsterdam, Milan, Paris and even Edinburgh from $800 roundtrip with a one-stop connection in Manchester, England.
And if you are a Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer member, use promo code “KFFARES” to save even more money. Not a member, just sign up at their website.
The only airlines with comparable fares to Asia are the mainland Chinese carriers (Air China, China Eastern and China Southern) and I can guarantee you, flying Singapore Airlines will be a much better flying experience. Singapore Airlines offers economy class seats with a whopping 19 inches of width, 32 inches of pitch and 6 inches of recline; personal in-flight entertainment systems with a huge selection of on-demand movies, TV shows, music and video games; USB/electrical outlets and a foot rest at every seat; and complimentary alcoholic beverages during meals.
I recently fly Singapore Airlines Economy Class from Los Angeles to Singapore. You can read about my fantastic flight experience here.
Want to treat yourself and upgrade to premium economy class? With this sale, you can fly to Seoul and Tokyo for $1,050; Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Phuket for $1,150 and even Manchester (England) for $1,300. These prices are great for premium economy seats when normal economy class tickets on other airlines can cost almost as much (if not more).
Premium economy offers passengers a more spacious seat in a smaller, more private cabin. Premium economy seats measure 19.5 inches wide and have 38 inches of pitch and 8 inches of recline. Additionally, all premium economy class seats are equipped with larger, in-flight entertainment systems, USB and universal electrical outlets, foot rests and leg rests at every seat.
Singapore Airlines Premium Economy Class passengers also get priority services and amenities such as priority check-in, boarding and baggage handling, “Book the Cook” meals, noise-cancelling headphones and amenity kits.
I recently flew Singapore Airlines Premium Economy Class from Singapore to Los Angeles and really enjoyed my experience. You can read my full flight review here.
Singapore Airlines is also putting business class on sale but I don’t really think these prices are that great. The lowest business class price I could find was New York to Frankfurt for $1,999. Everything else was in the $3000s and that’s not much of a sale. I wouldn’t recommend buying these business class fares but if you want to fly business class, I’ll talk more about how you can use points to upgrade to business class later on in the post.

Singapore Airlines Great Getaway sale limitations
This getaway sale is great for travel but unfortunately is horrible for mileage earning if booked in economy class. Premium economy fares are double the price but will earn exponentially more miles. This sale is also limited because sale prices only apply to Singapore Airlines and Silk Air flights. This sale does not include partner airline flights (except for the European destinations) so you must be departing from one of Singapore Airlines’ four U.S. hubs including Houston, Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York to take advantage of this sale.
Additionally, you can only fly to certain destinations from certain origination airports. For example, Frankfurt can only be served from New York; Manchester and the other European destinations can only be served from Houston; Seoul and Tokyo can only be served from Los Angeles and Hong Kong can only be served from San Francisco. And because of Singapore Airlines’ limited route network, most destinations in Southeast Asia will require two stops, making for a very long travel day.
Using points to upgrade from Premium Economy to Business Class
If you have a bunch of Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer miles or points from Chase, Citibank and American Express, using them to upgrade from premium economy class to business class with this sale can be a good deal. I recently took advantage of a similar deal and booked a premium economy ticket from Los Angeles to Phuket with my friends. Using 45,000 KrisFlyer miles, I upgraded my outbound flights from Los Angeles to Singapore (LAX-ICN-SIN) from premium economy to business class.
You can read my Singapore Airlines Business Class trip report from Los Angeles to Singapore here.
Upgrading to business class does not incur any additional taxes and fees. If you have some Citi Thank You points and don’t know what to do with them, this is not a bad way to use them. Singapore Airlines’ upgrade award chart can be found here.
Upgrading your ticket is simple and can be done all online. Once you have purchased your ticket, log into your Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer account to manage your reservation. Go to your booking and there will be a link to upgrade your flight using miles. The system will show you available flights to upgrade or wait-list if there are no available seats. Quick tip: if you are planning on using miles to upgrade, search for business class award space prior to booking your premium economy ticket.
