Singapore Airlines is having a Spring sale and it’s pretty amazing. From now until April 30, 2017, you can fly from the United States to many destination in Asia (and a few in Europe) for as low as $599! We’re talking destinations such as Tokyo for $599, Oslo (Norway) for $640, Frankfurt and and Manchester (England) for $649, Bali, Jakarta, Vietnam, the Philippines, Thailand and others for $699 and even India is going for $772. These are roundtrip prices and inclusive of all taxes and fees.
The only airlines that are offering anything comparable to these deals are the mainland Chinese carriers (Air China, China Eastern and China Southern) and I can guarantee you, flying Singapore Airlines will be a much better passenger experience than those other carriers. Singapore Airlines Economy Class will offer you an industry leading seat with 19 inches of width and 32 inches of pitch, a personal in-flight entertainment system with movies, TV shows, music and video games on demand like https://w88kpi.com, USB/electrical outlets at every seat and complimentary alcoholic drinks during meals. And most importantly, airplane food that’s actually tasty!
Want to upgrade your travel experience? Fly to Frankfurt, Seoul or Tokyo in premium economy for $1099 and other destinations such as Bali, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, Phuket, Singapore, Vietnam and others for $1199. These fares are great for premium economy class when normal economy class tickets on other airlines can cost almost as much (if not more).
Singapore Airlines Premium Economy Class will provide you with a more spacious seat in a smaller and more private cabin. Premium economy seats offer 19.5 inches of width, 38 inches of pitch and 8 inches of recline. All premium economy class seats are equipped with 13.3 inch personal entertainment systems, USB and universal electrical outlets, and foot and leg rests.
Singapore Airlines Premium Economy Class passengers also get priority services and amenities such as priority check-in, boarding and baggage handling, “Book the Cook” meals, noise-cancelling headphones and an amenity kit. I recently flew Singapore Airlines Premium Economy Class from Singapore to Los Angeles and really enjoyed my experience. You can review my review here.
Singapore Airlines is also putting business class on sale but I don’t really think these prices are that great. The lowest business class price I could find was New York to Frankfurt for $1,999 and Manchester, Seoul and Tokyo for $2,999. I wouldn’t recommend buying these business class fares. However, I would recommend buying a premium economy class ticket and then using miles to upgrade to business class. I’ll talk more about this below.
Singapore Airlines Spring sale important details
- Book from now until April 30, 2017.
- Travel period is from July 10, 2017 to December 10, 2017. All travel must be completed by December 31, 2017.
- The sale price listed is per person and includes all taxes, fees and other carrier imposed surcharges.
- There is no minimum stay required but the maximum stay is one month.
- Economy class Spring sale tickets book into V fare class:
- With Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer, V fare class tickets will earn 10% of mileage flown towards award miles and elite status.
- With United MileagePlus, V fare class tickets will earn zero miles. Same goes for Lufthansa Miles and More, Turkish Airlines Miles and Smiles and others.
- V fare class tickets are not upgradable to premium economy or business class with miles.
- Premium economy Spring sale tickets will book into P fare class:
- With Singapore Airlines SilverKris, P fare class tickets will earn 110% of mileage flown towards award miles and elite status.
- With United MileagePlus, Turkish Airlines Miles and Smiles and Aegean Miles+Bonus, P fare class tickets will earn 100% mileage.
- With Lufthansa Miles and More, P fare class tickets will earn 150% mileage.
- P fare class tickets are upgradable to business class with Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer miles.
These Spring sale deals are great but unfortunately are horrible for mileage earning if booked in economy class. Premium economy fares are double the price but will earn exponentially more miles and will be a much better flying experience. With Premium economy, you can expect to earn more than full mileage and have a premium experience with spacious recliner seats and priority services. But if you don’t care about miles, you can’t beat these Spring sale economy class prices. You will still have a great experience regardless of which class you travel in.
Singapore Airlines Spring sale limitations
This is a great sale but unfortunately only applies to Singapore Airlines’ own flights. This sale does not include partner airline flights (except for the Oslo flight) so you must be departing from one of Singapore Airlines’ U.S. hubs including Houston, Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York to take advantage of this sale. Additionally, you can only fly to certain destinations from certain origination airports. For example, Frankfurt can only be served from New York; Manchester, England and Oslo can only be served from Houston; Seoul and Tokyo can only be served from Los Angeles and Hong Kong can only be served from San Francisco, etc. Because of Singapore Airlines’ limited route network, most destinations in Southeast Asia will require two stops, making for a very long travel day.
Upgrading to Singapore Airlines Business Class from Premium Economy Class
If you have a bunch of KrisFlyer miles or Citi Thank You points and don’t know what to do with them, using them to upgrade from premium economy class to business class with this sale can be a good deal. I recently took advantage of a similar deal and booked a premium economy ticket from Los Angeles to Phuket with my friends. Using 45,000 KrisFlyer miles (38,250 after the online discount), I upgraded my outbound flights from Los Angeles to Phuket (LAX-ICN-SIN-HKT) from premium economy to business class. I’ll have a full review of my flight coming up soon but here are some pictures.
But the best part about using miles to upgrade from premium economy to business class, it won’t cost you any more money. Upgrading to Business Class does not incur any additional taxes and fees. If you have some Citi Thank You points, this is not a bad way to spend them. Singapore Airlines’ upgrade award chart can be found here.
Upgrading your ticket is simple and can be done all online. Once you have purchased your ticket, log into your Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer account to manage your reservation. Go to your booking and there will be a link to upgrade your flight using miles. The system will show you available flights to upgrade or wait-list if there are no available seats. Quick tip: if you are planning on using miles to upgrade, search for business class award space prior to booking your premium economy ticket.
