Singapore Airlines just unveiled their brand new Airbus A380 First Class Suites, Business Class and Economy Class at a much anticipated media event this morning in Singapore and the lineup looks fantastic! There have been so many rumors floating around regarding how Singapore Airlines would respond to a softening of international first class demand but also increased competition from the big three gulf carriers and today, we finally got our answer. Here are the details regarding their brand new product lineup, which will be featured on new Airbus A380 aircraft.
Singapore Airlines New Airbus A380 First Class Suites
Most notably, the First Class Suites cabin has been relocated from the lower deck of the Airbus A380 to the upper deck. The total number of suites will be reduced from 12 to just 6 but the size of the individual suites will significantly increased. This was to be expected as Singapore Airlines needed to do something to compete with the current king of the the hill, Etihad Airways, and their amazing First Class Apartment and Residence. And though Singapore Airlines’ new product won’t feature a 3-bedroom “Residence,” it will definitely give Etihad’s First Class Apartment a run for its money.
Singapore Airlines new Suites Class will now feature an enclosed space with a separate lounge chair for working, relaxing and eating and a dedicated bed (27 inches wide/78 inches long) for resting.
The individual suites will have sliding doors for privacy and a massive 32-inch monitor for entertainment along with a wireless tablet to control everything in the suite from the mood lighting and window blinds to the 5-star service on-board. And with a suite this size, you can expect plenty of storage spaces for all your carry-on and personal items.
If you’re traveling with a significant other, two pairs of the six suites (1A/2A and 1F/2F) can be converted to a “double suite” to give you extra room and a double bed to share. Unlike Etihad’s “double bed,” it looks like the entire wall between the two suites can be lowered to form one single bed.
Unfortunately, Singapore Airlines has decided not to install showers on-board nor will there there a social or community lounge area. Instead, there will be two lavatories located to the front of the upper deck for the six passengers.
Singapore Airlines New A380 Business Class
The upper deck of the A380 will now be reserved for premium cabin passengers only. Behind Suites Class, 78 new business class seats, separated into three cabins, will take over the rest of the upper deck. These seats look beautifully appointed and appear to be more of an improvement over their current offering and not a radical new offering. There are no privacy doors here. The big difference between the new and old seats is these seats will no longer have to be flipped over to go into bed mode. These seats will just go flat from the seated position.
And here’s a nice surprise – three pairs of the business class seats (the bulkhead seats located in rows 11D/F, 91D/F and 96D/F) can now be converted into double beds. This is pretty cool although, I have to ask. . . does anyone else think it’s weird to cuddle up with your loved one when there’s no privacy door?
Singapore Airlines A380 Premium Economy Class
Singapore Airlines already has a fantastic premium economy product so no improvement was necessary here. You can read my full Singapore Airlines Premium Economy Trip Report here for more details of their current offering.
Singapore Airlines New A380 Economy Class
And lastly, Singapore Airlines made some slight improvements to their already amazing economy class product. The new seats will feature bolstered sides, foot rests and an adjustable headrest for comfort and a robust entertainment system to keep you entertained.
Singapore Airlines New A380 Product Line-up Bottom Line
Overall, I’m very impressed with the direction Singapore Airlines is heading. Their new Suites, business class and economy class look amazing and I can’t wait to redeem some of my soon-to-be expiring KrisFlyer miles for a long-haul flight somewhere. Singapore Airlines will fly their brand new A380s outfitted with the new product to Sydney starting on December 18, 2017 and then London starting in March 2018.
