Yesterday I wrote about how redeeming flights on Expedia rewards works. I speculated that I didn’t think it was possible for Expedia to have worked out an agreement with every air carrier, and I also noted that it was interesting that the “price” in points for flights was exactly 100x the price in dollars for the same flight on their site. It led me to wonder whether an Expedia Rewards ticket might just be purchased from the Airline. And if that were the case, then wouldn’t we earn frequent flier miles on that ticket, as from the airline perspective, it would be just another revenue ticket? I reached out to Expedia to confirm or deny my speculation.
We regret to inform you that we are unable to determine if you would be able to get mileage points for flights booked using Expedia Rewards points, as the rewarding of points depends on the terms and conditions of your frequent flyer program. In matters like this, you may need to contact the airline directly.
Very interesting response. To me that sounds something like, “Certain fare codes are eligible for frequent flier miles and every airline has different rules so talk to them.” If I’m reading into this properly, I think that we should be able to earn miles on flights booked with Expedia Rewards.
I don’t have very many Expedia Rewards points yet, and I don’t see myself earning them at a very high rate, but the idea of a free ticket that earns additional miles is pretty fun!
