Work has brought me to Las Vegas this week, and my fiancée and I decided to make a fun weekend out of it. We came to Vegas on Friday. I’m currently staying at the Westin Casuarina (she has since departed), but on Friday night we stayed at the Golden Nugget on Fremont Street in Downtown Las Vegas. “Why on earth would we stay there?” you might ask..
Well, a few years back, The Golden Nugget installed a shark tank, and they put it right smack dab in the middle of their swimming pool! The swimming pool shares a glass wall with the shark tank. I have always wanted to go check this thing out, and I figured we might as well go this past Friday so I could cross it off my list of places to go! Not only is there a shark tank in the middle of the swimming pool, but a waterslide goes right through “The Tank” as well!
So we booked our hotel on Expedia (gotta get those Expedia Rewards points!), and on Saturday morning, we were at “The Tank” to check it out. I made a YouTube video of my experience. I’ve embedded it below.
Did it live up to they hype? Yes and no. It was really cool to be in the water next to these huge sharks with only a glass wall separating us. That being said, this place is overrun with kids. If you’re not at the pool by 9:30AM or so, you won’t get a seat. And if you try to leave a few towels on a chair, hotel staff comes at 10AM and takes all of the stuff off of chairs that are being reserved by guests, and they move it someplace.
There’s an adult-only pool called The Hideout, and it actually looked quite nice. The Hideout is not huge, but there’s music playing, and I’m guessing the bar service up there is much better. The only issue is that a lounge chair at the Hideout costs $20 per day. In comparison with some of the other Vegas pool rates, that’s quite inexpensive, but it’s still an annoyance. They actually sold out before 10AM even came around so we never got to give them a shot. If you are without kids, and you want to go check out this pool, I would recommend getting a couple of chairs at The Hideout, and make sure to reserve them in advance.
