Lyft is an on-demand car service that is almost exactly the same as Uber. Quite a few people have recently been looking to Uber-alternatives given a slew of bad publicity for Uber. Recent incidents include: France saying they will ban Uber in 2015, Uber charging extra for rides during the hostage crisis in Sydney, an Uber executive saying they track certain people, and the recent allegation that an Uber driver raped a passenger in India. And honestly, those are just the ones I can remember off the top of my head.Uber is such a giant that people keep using them regardless of the PR disaster(s) they’re going through, but Lyft is slowly growing and becoming a favorite of others. I’ve personally found Lyft to be cheaper than Uber, but there are also fewer drivers available in many markets.
UPDATE: Several readers have indicated they received a message saying this promotion is only for new users. It worked for my existing account, so I’m not sure what the issue is here. I would try loading a new MasterCard credit card to your account at the very least.
With that being said, Lyft is running a new promotion to give two free rides (up to $10 each) simply by inputting the code “MASTERCARD” into your Lyft app. It’s literally that simple. This promo applies to new and existing accounts, so it’s simply free money.
If you don’t have a Lyft account, you (and me) can get an additional $10 for free if you use my referral code “OMAR646127” first.
So here are your steps:
- Download the Lyft app for Android or iPhone.
- Register your account in the app using your phone number or Facebook account and use my referral code “OMAR646127” when registering. This gets you and me $10.
- Once logged in, add a MasterCard credit card to your account and enter code “MASTERCARD” under the “Payment Methods” section. That gets you another $20.
Your free ride credits should show immediately in your account:
Note that if you happen to want an Uber account, my referral link on the right side of this page will get you (and me) $20 free as the standard sign-up bonus.
