I am typically not a United Airline flyer, but last week I found myself on a United Airlines flight for the first time in nearly two years. The flight was nothing spectacular and nothing to write home about, but I was surprised by United Airlines take on their new safety video. The video lacks context in all aspects and makes me even less likely to know what to do in a case of an emergency.
For example, how many people actually wear their seatbelts in a taxi? I know we should, but most people in my experience don’t! Plus, what does a bumpy road have to do with turbulence? Anyone who knows the basic definition of turbulence or how it is caused should know it’s nothing like a pothole in a bad road!
Other issues I have with the video is the general lack of context. Kangaroos pouch, sure funny but a bit ridiculous. Or how about smoking in an aircraft verse an Italian street or even using a laptop at the zoo verse takeoff and landing? And finally, I have NO idea what they were thinking when they tried to compare economy class to a beach chair. Seriously, NO airline is that comfortable! But then again, I guess unless the beach chair is at an all-inclusive resort, you can enjoy the upcharges on everything from alcoholic drinks to caloric exploding snacks when flying United Airlines economy class.
United Airlines, thanks for trying to add some humor to your inflight safety video, however I think you missed the boat this time. As in all honesty, even if I paid attention to this video I don’t believe I would know what to do in case of an Emergency. In fact it wasn’t until my third flight on United that I even realized it was a safety video! The first two flights i had on United, I was listening to music on my phone and I was under the impression that the video was another inflight advertisement!
What do you think of the video, do you find in humorous, or do you think it’s just a bit to far in left field?
