Currently US Airways, Alaska Air, Spirit, and Virgin Atlantic are all having promotions that reward buyers of points with additional bonus points! I have listed the four big bonus opportunities below with a little information about each bonus opportunity. Each Promotion is powered by Points.com and if leveraged correct your free trip could cost you less and get you further than any revenue ticket ever could!
US Airways – 100% bonus miles sale promotion up to 50,000 miles! Ends September 30th Now Extended throught OCTOBER 12!!!
US Airways 100% promotions is by far the most generous promotion currently happening and with the 100,000 miles you can buy for just $1750 combined with the 40,000 miles bonus currently available with the US Airways credit card there is literally no place on this world you couldn’t get away to in either business class or first class! That is granted if US or their partners fly there 🙂 ! US Airways still has some sweet spots in their award chart, and I proved this just a few weeks ago by booking an around the world trip in First class for just 120,000 miles! On no other airline can you do such a trip for such few miles! Furthermore, Matt recently pointed out some other great ways to use your US Airways miles. I would not recommend buying miles unless you plan to use them soon, as a devaluation is probably around the corner when AA and US finish their integration.
My next favorite promotion that is currently happening is the Alaska Airlines 40% bonus opportunity when you buy miles through Oct. 14. Alaska Airlines has one of the best award charts for award travel in the US and has awesome partners such as Cathay Pacific, Korean, Qantas, Emirates and more. Furthermore, Alaska Air is having a fall mileage plan sale where select routes are discounted for travel between August 31, 2014 and October 31, 2014. Round trip travel now starts as just 10,000 miles for west coast flights or just $247 if you buy points to fly! Be sure to check the cost of the route though, as buying points may not always be the cheapest!
Friends don’t let friends fly Spirit, and when they do the trip better be free! Not to mention, you better be a savy traveler and know how to do EVERYTHING yourself so one is not hit with Spirits crazy ancillary fees. Spirit points are still a foreign currency to be, and will probably be among the last that I explorer. Award redemptions are distance based with region 1 awards for trips less than 1249 miles and region 4 ranging for redemptions of more than 2500 miles. Off peak awards start at just 2,500 miles and go as high as 45,000 miles depending on redemption level (off-peak, standard, peak, premium). Remember Spirit Points are only good for 3 months, so do not buy the points unless you know you’ll be redeeming them immediately!
Virgin Atlantic has one of my favorite Business class products for TATL travel and is currently offering a 25% bonus on awards. The only problem is Virgin Atlantic fuel surcharges can be more expensive than a ticket itself. Despite this, there are some great redemption options via Virgin Atlantic partners, such as Delta for worldwide travel, Virgin America for domestic travel, and many other partners. Most of Virgin’s partner awards to not have fuel surcharges, so this could be a great way to see the world, top off your a ccount, and redeem miles on partner airlines to save avoid the fuel surcharge!
If you’re flying soon and want to make an award redemption, this is your perfect opportunity to top off any of your accounts and sneak away for even less! A true #DoubleWideDelight in my book!
